Panthers Lose in Extras Against Tigers

The Lewis County High School Panthers travelled to Lewisburg on Tuesday, March 16th to take on the Marshall County Tigers.

Sloan Moseley started the game off for the Panthers with a leadoff single and moved around to score as Brody Whitlow and Moseley each reached on errors and the Panthers took a first-inning lead at 1-0. The Tigers would counter in the home first, reaching on a one-out error and moving the tying run across to even things up at 1.

Kael Feichtinger led off the second with a single and stole second, Trent Burns and Sloan Moseley were each hit by a pitch with one out, and the Panthers would push across 4 in total following and error on a Moseley hit and a 2-out single by Maddox Cagle, giving Lewis County a 5-1 lead.

Moseley would work around a walk and an error, striking out 3, in a scoreless second. Feichtinger delivered a one-out single for the Panthers in the third but remained a first as the Panthers went down in the inning. The Tigers would inch closer in the bottom of the third with a two-out solo homerun.

Lewis County would be retired in order in the visitor half of the fourth inning, and the Tigers would benefit from a leadoff walk to plate one in the inning, and the Panthers held a 5-3 lead after four complete.

The Panthers would again go down in order in the top of the fifth inning, and the Tigers would be held scoreless as well after a two-out double and a walk. In the sixth the Panthers would see another empty inning, going down in order for the third straight inning. A one-out error got things started for the Tigers in the sixth, as they pushed across three runs without the benefit of a hit and took a 6-5 lead.

The Panthers needed a run to keep hope alive, and back-to-back singles from Whitlow and Moseley tied the game at 6-6 moving into the bottom of the seventh. The Tigers only production in the bottom of the seventh was a two-out single, taking the game into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth the Panthers were retired in order, and the Tigers too went three up - three down to take the game into the ninth still tied at 6.

In the top of the ninth Trent Burns led off and was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game but was out at second on a fielder's choice hit by Moseley, and the Panthers would be unable to move beyond second in the inning. The Tigers would bring the game to an end in the bottom of the ninth after a leadoff single and steal, and a run-scoring error gave the Tigers the 7-6 win in nine innings.
