LCMS Lady Panthers vs. Summertown

The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers softball team travelled to Summertown on Monday, April 5th to take on the Lady Eagles.

With one out in the first inning Makaela Dodson ripped a triple into left and was driven in on a single by Clara Tanner to take an early 1-0 lead. Kinlee Keltner took the mound for the Lady Panthers and quickly retired the first two Lady Eagle batters before issuing a two-out walk and giving up a game-tying two-out single.

The Lady Panthers went down in order in the visitor half of the second. The Lady Eagles got the leadoff batter on by a single in the bottom of the second and loaded the bases with a walk and a single with no one out. An error by the pitcher plated two runners, and added four runs on a single, a wild pitch, a double, and an error to take a 7-1 lead before Brailey Carroll came on in relief to get the Lady Panthers out of the inning.

Dodson would deliver a two-out single but was left stranded in the third. Carrol would give up a single and a two-out double to add to their lead 8-1 in the bottom of the third.

In the fourth the Lady Panthers would again go down in order, and the Lady Eagles would add more to their lead in the bottom half. A leadoff triple, a one-out single, and a two-out single plated two more for Summertown as they took a 10-1 lead.

Claire Whitehead would lead off the fifth with a single, but her courtesy runner Olivia Smith would remain at first as the next three batters were retired in order. Consecutive one-out singles would put the game-ending run in scoring position and the Lady Eagles got a run-scoring double to end the game with a 11-1 score.

Makaela Dodson had two hits, a double, and accounted for the lone run for the Lady Panthers. Clara Tanner had a hit and an RBI, and Claire Whitehead added a hit. Kinlee Keltner went one and two-thirds innings on the mound, surrendering 7 runs (3 earned) on six hits, walking four and striking out one. Brailey Carroll went three innings, allowed four runs on four hits while striking out two.
