LCMS Panthers travel to Lobelville

The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers softball team travelled to Lobelville to take on the Lady Hornets on Tuesday, April 13th.

The Lady Panthers went down in order in the first inning of the game. Brailey Carroll took the mound for the Lady Panthers to start the game and pitched a perfect first and the game remained tied after one inning. Kinlee Keltner drew a leadoff walk in the second but remained at first as the Lady Hornets retired the next three in order. Carroll worked around a one-out single to get out of the second and there was still no score. The Lady Panthers were again retired in order in the third, and Carroll gave up a one-out hit before an inning ending double play in the bottom half. Makaela Dodson led off the visitor fourth with a double to left field and scored on an error on a smash off the bat of C.J. Tanner to score the game’s first run. After a walk to Kinlee Keltner, Brailey Carroll executed a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third with one out. With two outs in the inning, Addie Osborne lined an RBI single to left to bring home Keltner and Lewis County led 2-0. Carroll worked another perfect inning in the home fourth and the score remained 2-0. The Lady Panthers went down in order in the fifth, and the Lady Hornets scored their first run in the bottom half when they got a one-out single and, with two outs, a run came across to score on a Lady Panther error and made the score 2-1. With one down in the sixth Kinlee Keltner doubled on a line drive to left and Carroll moved her to third on another sacrifice bunt. With two out Kabry Adkins hit a ground ball to third that was misplayed and allowed Keltner to score and was followed by a double to left by Osborne that scored Adkins and Lewis County claimed a 4-1 lead. Carroll sat down the Lady Hornets in order in the sixth, bringing Lewis County up in their final at bat. Claire Whitehead led off the seventh with a single, and her courtesy runner Olivia Smith moved into scoring position when Gabii Ortiz reached on a fielder’s choice. Dodson picked up a single to load the bases with one out, and Keltner would bring home two more with a double to center and the Lady Panthers would take a 6-1 lead. Brailey Carroll would end the game with a three up/three down seventh for the win.

Makaela Dodson had 2 hits, a double, and a run, Kinlee Keltner had 2 doubles, 2 runs, and 2 RBI, Kabry Adkins a run scored, Addie Osborne had 2 hits, a double, and 2 RBI, Claire Whitehead a hit, and Gabii Ortiz a run scored. Braile Carroll went 7 innings for the win, allowed 3 hits and 1 run and struck out 7.
