The Lewis County Middle School Panthers baseball team travelled to Mt. Pleasant to take on the Tigers on Friday, April 16th.
A leadoff double by Jalen Smith on a ball to the left-centerfield gap got things started for the Panthers in the first, and Steele Moseley would single to left to plate the first run of the day. With one out in the first Sam Moore, Dakota Hull, and Kolt Skelton would provide consecutive singles to bring in 2 runs, and a two-out walk to Phenix McDonald would load the bases ahead of a two-run error on a ball hit to left by Maddox Tanner and the Panthers would have a 5-0 lead at the end of the first. Steele Moseley drew the start for the Panthers and worked around a leadoff walk to pitch a scoreless first. Brayden Whitlow lined a single to center with one out in the second and would move around and score on Dakota Hull’s two-out single to left. Moseley worked a perfect second and the Panthers held a 6-0 lead after two. Braylon Bean singled to lead off the third and was replaced by courtesy runner Cayleb Moore. McDonald would single to left and Maddox Tanner would drive in two runs on a single to left-center. An error by the Tiger shortstop on a ball hit by Smith would bring in a run, and back-to-back singles by Moseley and Whitlow would plate two more, and Sam Moore would drive in another with a sacrifice fly and the Panthers lead grew to 12-0. Moseley would surrender a two-out walk and hit a batter but escape with no runs scored in the third. With one out in the fourth Nate James was hit by a pitch and singles from Corbyn Harris and Steele Moseley cleared the bases as Moseley went all the way around to score on an error by the left fielder. With one out in the inning, Sam Moore doubled and Cayleb Moore reached on a catcher’s interference. Kolt Skelton plated Sam Moore on a single to left, and Braylon Bean would bring a run in on an error by the shortstop. Kegan Carroll-Clayton singled to right to load the bases again, and Kolt Skelton, Corbyn Harris, and Steele Moseley each drew run-scoring walks and the Panthers took a 20-0 lead. After the long half-inning, Moseley issued a leadoff walk, a triple, and a single to score two, and Dakota Hull came on in relief and the Panthers took the win 20-2.
