One Day At A Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 2

Well it is a beautiful morning here in our little valley. I went out to feed the cats and the sun was shining and felt so warm, I just had to go back and get my coffee and sit in my rocking chair and enjoy the warm sunshine. While I was sitting there, the cats fininished their breakfast and were giving themselves a bath, and two birds came down right at my feet and ate the cats’ leftovers. I looked across the yard and into the neighbors’ field and the cows were grazing peacefully. Then I looked up at one of the bluest skies ever and then I looked out at all the flowers blooming and I thought it sure was peaceful. God is good.

The other day we were out running errands in town and I looked at the buildings on each side of the street. I remembered about all those businesses that were there for so many years, one was Brown’s Variety store. We could go in there and get spools of thread and get a watch battery replaced or get your radio fixed and get an Icee on your way out. I miss that. But our town is growing and progress goes on. We stopped at several places and everywhere I saw smiles and was greeted with friendly hellos.

I just had a birthday and turned 79 years old. Many years ago I worked at Snip Snap and Bite Cafe. At that time the Lewis County Herald was across the street and Mr. Hulon Dunn Sr. would come in there, sometimes every day, for his morning coffee and back for lunch. So many good memories.

Our town is beginning to grow, and new businesses are coming. I hope when our young grow up and are older they will have good memories and I hope we will always be a close community. Let’s all try to hold on to that.

Well back to the warm sunshine, and beautiful blue sky. The cats are now napping, the birds have cleaned up the leftovers and I’ve finished my coffee. Got to get busy. I will hang clothes on the line today, sweep the porches and maybe quilt a little after lunch. I heard the old John Deere tractor and saw the neighbor out checking and mending fences. The cows are very content and so are their baby calves. We are all blessed.

Well, I’m going to enjoy this day and I’m not going to worry about tomorrow. God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless.
