vs. Wayne County

The Lewis County High School Panthers baseball team hosted the Wayne County Wildcats in the annual Wood Bat Tournament at LCHS on Friday, April 23rd.

Maddox Cagle made the start for the Panthers and gave up a leadoff single to center before retiring the next three Wildcats in order for a scoreless first. Sloan Moseley ripped a one-out single to centerfield and stole second ahead of a two-out single by Cagle that gave the home team a 1-0 lead after one.

Cagle was perfect in the second inning and the Panthers would blow the game open in the bottom half. Brody Whitlow singled to left to start the bottom of the second and Lincoln Brewer drew a walk. With one down Levi Thompson walked and Blake Carroll stroked a double to left-centerfield before Sloan Moseley reached on an error by the Wildcat shortstop. Slade Moseley singled, Cagle was hit by a pitch, and Kael Feichtinger reached on an error to keep the inning going with only one out. Consecutive singles by Whitlow and Brewer ahead of a sacrifice fly by Dyer Barnes pushed runs across, and Levi Thompson reached on another Wildcat miscue. Blake Carroll would add another single in the home second that saw the Panthers send 15 batters to the plate and score 10 runs to make the score 11-0 after two complete.

After an extended break for the long half-inning the Panthers spent at-bat, Cagle returned to the mound to pitch another three up/three down inning in the top of the third. Slade Moseley and Cagle each reached on singles to start the home-half of the third, but the Wildcats escaped without allowing a run.

Cagle pitched a perfect fourth inning and the Panthers led 11-0 moving to the bottom of the fourth. Barnes walked and Thompson was hit by a pitch to start what would be the final at-bat of the game for the Panthers. Carroll and Sloan Moseley would also be hit by a pitch and Slade Moseley ended the game with a double to left-center that gave the Panthers a 15-run lead to end the game in four innings.

Slade Moseley had 3 hits, a double, and a run scored for Lewis County, Blake Carroll 2 hits, a double, and 3 runs, Brody Whitlow 2 hits and 2 runs, Maddox Cagle 2 hits and a run, Sloan Moseley a hit and 3 runs, Lincoln Brewer a hit and 2 runs, Levi Thompson 2 runs, Kael Feichtinger a run, and Dyer Barnes a run. Maddox Cagle pitched a four-inning shutout, allowing only one hit to the first batter of the game before retiring 12 straight Wildcats and struck out 4.

vs. Montgomery Central

The Panthers baseball team also hosted the Montgomery Central Indians in the Wood Bat tourney on Friday, April 23rd.

Hayden Jackson took the mound to start for the Panthers in their second game of the annual Wood Bat tournament and surrendered one run in the first after a batter reached on a two-out fielder’s choice and a double that gave the Indians an early 1-0 lead. With two-down in the home first Slade Moseley lined a sharp double into the left-centerfield gap and Maddox Cagle worked the count to draw a two-out walk ahead of a run-scoring single by Kael Feichtinger tied the game at 1.

Jackson struck out two of three in a perfect second frame. Lincoln Brewer started the second with a double to left but was cut down at second. Levi Thompson drew a two-out walk ahead of a triple by Blake Carroll and a single by Sloan Moseley that gave Lewis County a 3-1 lead.

Jackson would work around a two-out single and walk to pitch a scoreless third, and the Panthers went down in order in the bottom half. The Indians singled to lead off the inning and a Panther error allowed the second batter to reach. Blake Carroll came in to relieve Jackson in the inning, and a ground ball to Cagle at first base led to the lead runner being cut down at the plate on a throw from Cagle to Feichtinger and the Panthers were able to keep the Indians off the board.

The Panthers went down in order in the bottom of the fourth, all by strikeout, and the Panthers held on to a 3-1 edge.

A leadoff hit in the fifth would lead to the Indians second run of the game, and the Panther batters in the bottom of the fifth would be set down in order again by strikeouts and the Panther lead was trimmed to 3-2.

Carroll worked around a leadoff single for a scoreless sixth, and the Panthers would get a two-out single from Brewer but fail to score.

Brewer took the mound in the seventh and retired three in a row after a leadoff single to get the save in a 3-2 Panther win.

Lincoln Brewer had 2 hits and a double in game, Blake Carroll a triple and a run, Slade Moseley a double and a run, Sloan Moseley a single, Kael Feichtinger a single, and Levi Thompson a run scored.

vs. Linden

The Panthers travelled to Linden on Monday, April 26th to take on the Perry County Vikings.

Blake Carroll led off the game with a solo homerun, a shot that gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead after one batter in the game, and Sloan Moseley followed drawing a walk and would later score on a passed ball. With two-out in the first Kael Feichtinger would single but be stranded when the inning closed. Slade Moseley took the mound to start for Lewis County and worked a quick, 8 pitch-inning to retire the side in order and the Panthers led 2-0 after one.

Lincoln Brewer would single in the top of the second, Levi Thompson drew a one-out walk and Sloan Moseley a two-out walk. Brewer would cross the plate on a passed ball and the Panthers took a 3-0 lead. Moseley gave up a leadoff walk, but the runner was put out on a fielder’s choice one batter later and he would strike out the next two to end the inning.

Maddox Cagle led off the visitor third smashing a double to left-center and Whitlow would provide a one-out single ahead of a pair of walks to Brewer and Dyer Barnes. With bases loaded Levi Thompson ripped a double to right-center and both Carroll and Sloan Moseley were hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Slade Moseley and Cagle doubled in the next two slots and Feichtinger singled. The Panthers sent 13 batters to the dish in the third inning and plated 9 to make the lead 12-0. Moseley pitched a perfect third.

The Panthers would go down scoreless in the top of the fourth. The Vikings got a two-out walk in the fourth but were kept off the board again.

Slade Moseley reached on a single to start the fifth but was cut down at second trying to stretch it into a double, and the Panthers would be retired in order. Moseley pitched a perfect bottom half to end the game with the Panthers taking a 12-0 win on the road.

Maddox Cagle had 2 doubles and 2 runs scored for the Panthers, Slade Moseley 2 hits, a double, and a run, Kael Feichtinger 2 hits, Blake Carroll a solo homerun and 2 runs scored, Lincoln Brewer a hit and 2 runs, Brody Whitlow a hit and a run, Levi Thompson a double and a run, Sloan Moseley 2 runs, and Dyer Barnes a run scored. Slade Moseley pitched 4 innings in the no-hit win, walked 2 and struck out 6.
