Rain and Storms hurt some of the weekend's events, but not Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund

The rains of this past weekend took a toll on some of the fund-raising events in the town, especially the library fundraiser in Memorial Park that was due to introduce the new library extension to the public and show off the new designs and drawings. By Saturday, the late afternoon rain and winds of Friday evening had turned much of the field into a mud bath, with one vendor tent and display blowing away out of the park. That certainly held down the expected crowds and diminished the donations to the building fund. But should you wish to donate, it is not too late and you can contact librarian Crystal Nash or any member of the library staff who would love to talk with you and accept your donation.

Two other events that were not seriously affected by the rain and winds were the Lewis County Cancer Victims lunch on Friday in the Memorial Hall that raised an amazing $5,880, selling nearly all the food that was prepared, some 500 plates in all.

The other being the "10th Annual Ticked Off At Cancer Bike Ride" the first bike ride of the year, that was well supported by not just local bike riders, but riders both men and women from a number of counties around Lewis County. Again the funds raised went to Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund, so all in all, the Cancer Victims Fund of Lewis County did especially well for the weekend with over $15,300 being raised from the bike ride and $5,800 from the luncheon.

We in Lewis County salute the organizers of the bike ride and thank all who braved the wind and the rain on Saturday morning as riders dodged the rain showers to raise much needed money for the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund, with all monies raised staying right here in Lewis County. Well done folks.
