Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
Hohenwald will go “HohenWILD” with adventure when the Lewis County Public Library and Archives kicks off their 2021 Summer Reading Program, “Tails and Tales: Animal Adventures in Hohenwald.” Throughout June and July, the library and archives will host a number of family-friendly events including a storybook walk through “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” with live animals, an outdoor movie night, a musical performance by Sail On: The Beach Boys Tribute Band, and other in-person animal adventures. The annual reading program will run June 4 through July 17. Registration begins the week of May 31.
Designed to combat the “Summer Slide,” where children and teens experience a learning loss over the summer break from school, the library’s summer reading program keeps young minds active through reading and educational activities throughout the summer. A complete list of summer events can be picked up at the library.
Participants of all ages—from infant to adult—will earn virtual badges and real-world prizes by reading, attending programs, locating special codes hidden throughout town, and logging those activities through the READsquared app.
The 2021 Summer Reading Program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the City of Hohenwald. Support materials are provided by the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Additional funding has been made possible through a Dollar General Literacy Foundation Summer Reading grant.
