One Day At A Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 9

Well it was a hot and humid day here in our little valley. But I’m sitting in the swing on the front porch with a big cold glass of sweet tea. There is a breeze blowing and we have a lot of shade, the cats are napping in the cool shade. It is really quiet, I don’t even hear any birds. I guess it is just too hot for them.

The squirrels were busy earlier this morning carrying apples across the yard. There are plenty of apples on the old apple tree. I will be really busy soon putting up apple butter, I’ve never seen so many apples.

We walked up to the blueberry bushes and they are beginning to change color. It won’t be long until I can start canning juice and making blueberry jam. God sure is good to us.

Still a lot of bad things going on. I turned on the TV to see the weather and so many bad things were reported, I didn’t hear anything good. They are still keeping the Covid going, trying to make it sound as bad as they can. We all know it is bad, but we are going to have to get up and go on with our lives. I still wear a mask and do the best I can to keep from getting sick. You know, we’ve had bad things happen before and we got through them, and with the good Lord’s help we will get through this. We will just take it one day at a time.

Well it has been a busy day for me. I washed the porches, hung clothes on the line, worked a little in the yard, and had company. The granddaughter with great-grandson, Reed, stopped by. Reed wanted a glass of Ma Evelyn’s sweet tea. I went by Lee Carroll’s shop and left him a gallon of sweet tea, tastes pretty good on these hot days. The neighbor stopped by and brought me a big bag of squash, I fried a big skillet of it for dinner. Sure is good to have nice neighbors.

I heard the old John Deere tractor and saw the trucks pulling trailers loaded with big round bales of hay. The neighbor and all his boys are cutting, baling and hauling hay. He is getting prepared. Winter will be here before we know it. These boys are all young men and good workers. They can do just about anything. Good help is hard to find. I can call them anytime if I need them and they are here.

Well I’ve finished my tea and need to get clothes off the line. It has been a real good day. Cooler weather is coming next week. It won’t last long but we will be glad to have cool weather when we can get it. We are all blessed and thankful. You know, God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God Bless.
