Head-on collision on Buffalo Road

Series: Car Accident | Story 32

An accident was reported Saturday morning, July 31, 2021 just after 7 a.m. when two vehicles collided at 600 Buffalo Road.

According to Hohenwald Police Department Sergeant Larry Joe Hinson, witnesses reported a female driver of a Pontiac Sunfire was passed out in the parking lot in her vehicle at Nick and Bubba's.

They woke her up to let her know her vehicle was still in drive. The driver, Chandra Painter, 25, of Hohenwald, then left the parking lot in the vehicle driving south on Buffalo Road.

Angie Martin, of Hohenwald, was driving north on Buffalo Road in her Jeep Renegade with her husband following in a second vehicle. They saw the Sunfire approaching, veering into their lane and were unable to avoid a head-on collision. Martin was transported by ground ambulance to Maury Regional Medical Center for treatment and observation.

Painter was given a field sobriety test on the scene. She was taken into custody after she failed the test. She was charged and booked into Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence, simple possession/casual exchange, and driving on a revoked/suspended license.

Sergeant Hinson was assisted by HPD Officer Shane McKnight, as well as Hohenwald Fire and Rescue. Taylor's Wrecker Service was called to remove both vehicles.
