One Day At A Time

Well it is another quiet morning here in our little valley, not many sounds and not even any squirrels in the yard, but the apples on the apple tree are all gone. The squirrels sure were busy when there was a lot of apples on the tree. The cats are napping, seems like everything is just relaxing. I know I am enjoying the peace and quiet. Off in the distance I can hear the neighbors cows and a dog barking. The sun is shining across the front yard and I can see the shadow of the cross from the old oak tree.

We are all feeling a lot better, finally getting over whatever we had. I’m still hearing a lot about the viruses and talk about going back to wearing mask. We never stopped wearing our masks and we got our shots and we still got sick, but not bad I guess.

I was in the kitchen this morning cooking breakfast, of course I was making a big iron skillet of homemade “cathead biscuits” and I was thinking back to when my kids were young and back to when I was growing up. We didn’t have all the convinces that we have today. I put my coffee on in the coffee making, put the biscuits in a big preheated over. When I was growing up we got up real early and had to build a fire in a wood cook stover and put our coffee on in an old percolator that set on the stove to boil. If mama ever complained I never heard her, she was taking care of her family in the best ways that she could. And now who cooks breakfast anymore? Now its too hot and everybody is busy and in a hurry and running late. It’s a bowl of cereal for the kids, they don’t like breakfast anyway and the grown-ups will grab something on the way to work. What has happened? Then I got to thinking, if things have changed this much, what will it be like in five to ten years from now. I don’t think I really want to know. Like I said before, I am trying to stay as normal as I can despite living in this fast pace world.

Well it is early morning and it is already getting warm, here it is August and fall is just about here. I’m looking forward to fall, it sure is a pretty time of year but winter is my favorite time of year. My son says “my mama loves cold weather.” I am looking forward to the holidays too. I love the smell of wood smoke from the old wood heater and a big pot of homemade soup cooking, and sitting by the wood heater quilting. Now does that sound perfect with our temperatures today in the 90’s. No, I’m not crazy, I just love life.

Well there is a lot of trouble out there but we have to pray and keep a positive attitude and trust the good Lord to take care of us. He has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless.
