Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
Well it is a stormy morning here in our little valley. It is thundering and raining, but it is storming a lot worse to the north of us. I am enjoying the front porch swing. The cats have all gone to their safe places. I fed them earlier this morning before it started storming. I like days like these as long as it doesn’t get bad. Back when we were little we would have been in the cellar before now.
It has been a busy week as usual, I have got a lot done. I have done some house cleaning. I didn’t have anything to can, I think most people’s summer gardens are almost done for the year. Soon gardeners will start planting their turnip greens. We love a big bowl of turnip greens with a big piece of ham cooked in them. Back in the good old days they called it “fat back,” some of you that are almost my age know what I am talking about. Our neighbor brought us okra, peppers and tomatoes and we will have them for lunch. Thank God for good neighbors.
It has been an unusual year, seems like things are still not getting back to normal and some people wonder if they ever will be normal again. I am trying to keep things as normal as I can, but it seems like it is getting harder and harder. I just keep praying and trusting the good Lord, I believe He will take care of us. There is still a lot of sickness going on but it also seems more people are getting better so keep praying with us.
I still write my letter to Jesus every morning and then I say my prayers and then I write in my journal. Over the years I have a stack of letters and journals. That is the first thing I do every morning before I start my daily work, it sure seems to make my day go better. People ask me doesn’t that take a lot of time? I say well I don’t text or do computers or watch a lot of TV, so no it really doesn’t.
Hey, I want to thank all of you that have been reading my little story each week, I hope everyone is enjoying them. It is just a little part of my life that I like sharing. Thank you Mr. Hulon Dunn and all the ladies of the Lewis County Herald for letting me share.
Well I’ve enjoyed this porch swing and I’ve finished my cup of coffee. I don’t know yet what I am going to do today but I know whatever I find to do, I will be busy. I am not going to worry about tomorrow. I am just going to take one day at a time. God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.
God Bless.
