The Lewis County High School Panthers opened their 2021 football campaign at Bobby W. Sharp Stadium on Friday, August 20, 2021 when they hosted the Community Vikings.
The Panther offense wasted little time putting points on the board in the first quarter when, barely three and a half minutes into the game quarterback Bryson McDonald connected with Dyer Barnes on a 13-yard touchdown pass and Blake Carroll added the point after to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead. Midway through the second quarter Lincoln Brewer broke free on a 44-yard run to score, and Carroll added the point after to give the Panthers a 14-0 lead. Moments later the Vikings found paydirt as Maki Fleming caught a 49-yard touchdown pass from Dallas Grooms, but the Vikings failed to convert the two-point conversion and the Panther lead was 14-6 at the half. Only :14 seconds into the second half the Panthers would score on a 51-yard touchdown run by Blake Carroll, who added the PAT to give the home team a 21-6 lead. Later in the third, Kael Feichtinger busted through on a 2-yard touchdown run and the Carroll PAT made the score 28-6. In the fourth quarter Carroll would score on a 2-yard run and convert the point after to make the score 35-6 Lewis County. moments after the Carroll touchdown, the Vikings' John Stanley would break away on a 75-yard touchdown run, and Grooms would convert the two-point run to make the score 35-14. The score would hold for the rest of regulation, and Lewis County captured the season-opening win at home.
Blake Carroll had 110 yards on 9 carries and 2 touchdowns, Kael Feichtinger 6 carries for 33 yards and a TD, Lincoln Brewer 5 carries for 47 yards and a touchdown, Ayden Dunn 3 carries for 26 yards, Brady Johns 3 carries for 6 yards, Kai Bosque 2 for 4, and Bryson McDonald 1 for 2. Bryson McDonald completed 7 of 13 pass attempts for 78 yards and a touchdown. Dyer Barnes had 2 receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown, Kael Feichtinger 1 catch for 25 yards, Blake Carroll 1 catch for 14 yards, Bentley Kelsey 1 catch for 11 yards, Maddox Kellogg 1 catch for 6 yards, and Lincoln Brewer 1 catch for 6 yards.
The Panther defense was led by Kael Feichtinger with 17 tackles, one for loss. Austin Hicks, Chaz Sparkman, and Eli Carroll 8 tackles each, Lincoln Brewer and Hunter Smith 6 tackles, Bentley Kelsey, Dominic Seiber, and Ayden Dunn 5 tackles, Cole Farr 4 tackles, Zander Frierson 3 tackles and one for loss, Kade Skelton 2 tackles and one for loss, Maddox Kellogg, James Azcarate, Dyer Barnes, Brett Kohl, Riley Ray, Austin Churchwell, and Andrew Willis 1 tackle each, and Bishop Sparkman added an interception.
The 1-0 Panthers return to action at Bobby W. Sharp Stadium on Friday, August 27th when they host the Fayetteville Tigers.
