The Lewis County Middle School Panthers kicked off their 2021 football season at home on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at A.B. Sisco Athletic Field, hosting the Summertown Eagles.
The visitors from Summertown took the opening kickoff and dominated the clock in the first quarter before Lewis County took possession and marched downfield to find the endzone on a 28-yard run by Micah Godfrey. After the failed two-point conversion the Panthers led 6-0. Midway through the second quarter Godfrey drifted back to receive a punt and returned it 74 yards for a Panther touchdown. Reggie Wade added the two-point conversion, and the Panthers took a 14-0 lead. Just before the half, the Panthers used big runs to set up a 7-yard touchdown run by Wade and a two-point run by Jalen Smith to extend the lead to 22-0 at the half. The final scoring drive of the game for the Panthers came in the third quarter when Godfrey found the edge and sprinted by the Eagle defense on an 84-yard run. Wade added the two-point conversion and the Panthers led 30-0. With only 2:39 remaining in the game the Eagles found the endzone on a 7-yard run and added the two-point conversion to make the score 30-8, which held to the final as the Panthers took the opening-night victory.
Micah Godfrey had 3 carries for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns and added a 74-yard punt return for a touchdown. Reggie Wade had 5 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown, Drew Ray 4 carries for 19 yards, Jalen Smith 2 carries for 19 yards, Braylon Bean 2 carries for 6 yards, Kobe Feichtinger 1 carry for 5 yards, Gavin Coker 1 carry for 3 yards, and DJ Stewart 1 carry for 1 yard. Drew Ray and Reggie Wade each had 6 tackles, Keegan Carroll-Clayton and Kade Carroll 5 tackles each, Jalen Smith 4 tackles, Kobe Feichtinger 4 tackles and a tackle for loss, Hunter Hicks and Carson Wade 4 tackles each, Micah Godfrey and DJ Stewart 3 tackles, Aiden Wise, Braylon Bean, and Kevin Lopez 2 tackles, and Caden Miller, Evan Mathis, and Nate James 1 tackle each.
The 1-0 LCMS Panthers return to action on Thursday, August 26th as they travel to Unionville to take on the Community Middle Vikings.
