Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
AHC Lewis County organized a parade for their residents where family members and friends could walk by all the windows and say hello to their loved ones just in time for Grandparents Day.
Several of the visitors made signs for their loved ones, telling their grandparent or parent how much they love and care about them.
Administrator Celeste Blocker came up with the idea as a way to do something special for the residents. Then other staff members quickly began to call the residents' families and put posts on Facebook announcing the parade.
"You know, at the end of the day, we get to go home and maybe go shopping on the weekends, but [the residents] only get to stay here," said Margaret Miller, Activities Coordinator for AHC Lewis County, "So it means a lot to them to have someone come and visit, even if it is through a window."
Miller said that the nursing home encourages anyone who would like to come out to visit the residents, get a group together to say hello or even sing, to contact her at AHC Lewis County so they can set up a time and let the residents know.
"A lot of the people here were a big part of the community, and they still are a big part of the community," said Miller. "Even if you aren't family, friends can still come or anyone who just wants to make them smile."
Making the residents smile and having someone visit them makes them feel loved which is especially important during the pandemic when face to face visition has been restricted.
"We want to do anything we can to make our residents feel happy," said Miller, "So we're encouraging people to come on down and wave."
