LCMS Panthers win on 8th Grade Night

The Lewis County Middle School Panthers football team hosted the Richland Raiders on 8th Grade Night at A.B. Sisco Athletic field on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

The Panthers started things off early in the opening quarter driving the field after forcing a Richland turnover. Micah Godfrey carried the ball 29 yards for paydirt and Jalen Smith added the conversion run to stake the Panthers to an 8-0 lead.

The Panther defense was solid in the first quarter, limiting the Raiders to 18 yards on 10 plays and highlighted by a Kegan Carroll interception.

Drew Ray would score on a 9-yard run and Kolt Skelton would connect with Jalen Smith for the two-point conversion to make it 16-0 with under three minutes to play in the first.

Micah Godfrey would add another score in the first quarter scampering 59 yards for a touchdown in the final seconds, and Drew Ray tacked on the two-point run to make the score 24-0 at the end of the first.

As neither team could put together a scoring drive in the second, the score remained Lewis County 24 Richland 0 at halftime.

Reggie Wade would streak down the left side and beat the Richland defenders on his way to a 52-yard touchdown run, and Jalen Smith added another conversion run to give Lewis County a 32-point lead early in the third quarter. The Raiders would break the plane of a goal line later in the period on a 20-yard touchdown pass and a successful 2-point conversion to make the score 32-8. With a minute left in the third, Godfrey's speed was on display again as he blistered the Raiders for a 71-yard touchdown run, and Kolt Skelton would again connect with Smith for the conversion to make the score 40-6.

Panther reserves would be able to punch the ball in late in the fourth as Phenix McDonald carried it in from the 1 for a touchdown and Malekai Bosque tacked on the two-point run to complete the scoring as Lewis County defeated Richland 48-8.

Micah Godfrey had 8 carries for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns, Reggie Wade 4 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown, Drew Ray 3 carries for 11 yards and a touchdown, Jalen Smith 6 carries for 6 yards, Phenix McDonald 2 carries for 4 yards and a touchdown, Malekai Bosque 2 carries for 2 yards, and Kaden Pace 1 carry for 1 yard. On the night the Panthers rushed for over 300 yards. Kolt Skelton completed 3 of 5 passes for 21 yards, Micah Godfrey had 2 receptions for 19 yards and Jalen Smith had a reception for 2 yards.

The Panther defense was stingy on the night, allowing 145 yards of total offense and forcing 2 turnovers. Carson Wade had 7 tackles and one tackle for loss, Jalen Smith had 6 tackles and 1 for loss, Drew Ray and Reggie Wade had 5 tackles each, Phenix McDonald, D.J. Stewart, and Kevin Lopes 3 tackles each, Kobe Feichtinger 2 tackles and an interception, Micah Godfrey, Garrett Reeves, and Hunter Hicks 2 tackles each, Kegan Clayton had a tackle and an interception, and J.D. Wood, Shawn Lewis, Aiden Wise, Brodie Unger, Kade Carroll, Clay Jackson, and Nate James each had a tackle.

The LCMS Panthers travel to Savannah to take on Hardin County Thursday night, September 23rd.
