Well it is a nice cool fall morning here in our little valley. It’s really quiet and not much traffic on our road. The cats are all taking their naps. The only things that seem not quiet are the crows. I can hear a whole lot of crows squawking, they’re probably talking about how quiet it is.
I saw two big trailer loads of hay go down the road, it looked like about 12 of those big round rolls of hay on each trailer, people are getting ready for winter.
The neighbor boys came and cut down another tree for us. The tree was growing at an angle and if we have a big snow this winter, it could have caused it to break, better to be safe than sorry. Plus it gave us another stack of wood for the old wood heater.
I am still seeing a lot of spiders and ants everywhere, I know the older folks used to forecast what kind of seasons we would have by the signs, like having more bugs than normal in the summertime meant that we would have a bad winter.
We have been washing windows inside and out, and we have even cleaned some siding, trying to get as much done outside as we can before the weather turns cold. The windows look so much better after they’ve been washed, it just makes you feel good to look out clean windows. We have got a lot more to do but we’ve got to do it one day at a time.
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only about 55 days away and Christmas is only about 80 days away, and we should be getting our first frost in a couple of weeks. Usually we get a frost around the 15th of October, where has this summer gone?
Next week I am going to try and can some vegetable soup. It sure will be good on some really cool fall day or cold winter day to open up a jar of home canned vegetable soup and put it on the old wood heater and fix a big iron skillet of browned cornbread. I can hardly wait. I sure like this time of year.
Some of you older folks can remember when we were going to school back in the good old days, we had to carry our lunch to school in a little paper bag. Well the other day I needed a little paper bag for something and I couldn’t find one. But later I was getting my sugar bag out of the cabinet to sweeten my tea and I remembered that I can take the outside sugar bag off and the inside bag is a perfect brown paper bag, just what I needed. Mama did this sometimes to put our lunches in for school. Now that was smart and resourceful, but nobody carries lunch to school anymore and we now can buy paper bags at the store.
I want to thank all of you that have been reading my little stories, thank you for all the cards and calls. I’m so glad you are enjoying my ramblings. It’s all from my heart, I am just an old lady enjoying life.
Now I can see the cows grazing peacefully in the neighbors pasture across the road. The cats ate early so they’re now up from their naps and ready for a treat, the first one to eat is Miss Piggy and then Precious, she is a little picky, and then Mama Cat she lets them eat first, and of course there’s Kitty Tom, he doesn’t care, he does his own thing.
Well I am going to enjoy this day and I’m not going to worry about tomorrow. I am just going to take it one day at a time. God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.
God Bless.
