Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
October 8th and 9th
The Chamber of Commerce's Oktober Heritage Festival is scheduled for this weekend, October 8 and 9, Friday and Saturday. So get out those walking shoes because there will be miles and miles of craft and yard sales.
That is not the only source of entertainment for this weekend. There will be live music, a kids corner and there will be the Lewis County Cancer Victim Fund's Car and Truck Show as well as the Big Rig Show.
The newest addition will be Dauntless Archery Tag which is similar to a game of Paintball where players shoot bow and arrows at one another. It is not as dangerous as it sounds though. The arrows have styrofoam on the tips. There will be barriers players can hide behind and players get to respawn into the game after being hit. The objective of the game is to pop all other team's targets before they get yours. Anyone who would like to play a game of archery tag, the game will be located at the Lewis County Museum.
The Third Annual Car and Truck Show will be from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday morning at the Courthouse lawn on 110 Park Avenue North. The car and truck show is sponsored by the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund who utilizes all the proceeds to help locals battling cancer to pay for their trips to and from the hospital.
The Big Rig Show will also be held on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. on Court Street, between Powers FoodTown and the Lewis County County Court House. The proceeds made from the show will also be donated to the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund.
The Opening Ceremonies for the festival will take place on Friday, starting with a costume contest at 12:00 noon, followed by a parade from the Lewis County Public Library and Archives at 12:30 p.m.
The ceremonies at the Main Street stage will begin at 1:00 p.m. where BurgerMiester Jeanette Shanes and Hohenwald Heritage Award winner Geraldine Crowell will be introduced to the crowd.
The ceremonies will be followed by a reception at the Wihelm Tell Platz gazebo for a chance to talk to Mrs. Shanes and Mrs. Crowell.
Live music will be played from the Main Street Stage until later that evening, and a book signing will be held with Mr. Terry Warren at 4:00 p.m. in the Lewis County Library.
