The Lewis County High School Panthers football team travelled to Summertown for a Thursday night matchup with the Eagles on Thursday, October 21, 2021. The Panthers entered the game riding a six-game win streak, 7-1 in the season and 4-0 in Region 6AA. The Eagles, winners of three straight, entered with a record of 5-2 and 3-1 in Region 5AA.
The first quarter of action was an indicator of how the entire game would play out as each team struggled to break the others defensive grip and the teams played to a tie, 0-0, in the opening twelve minutes of action.
The second quarter would play almost ten minutes before the Panthers drew first blood, as Blake Carroll scored from 4 yards out to give the Panthers a 6-0 lead with just over five minutes to play in the first half. However, the point after kick by Carroll was off target and the Panthers left a point on the field, a point that would prove pivotal as the game progressed.
The Eagles would mount a drive just before the half and, with only 12 seconds remaining before halftime, Summertown's Gavin Robinson would catch a 12-yard pass in the endzone from Colton Shaffer to tie the game at 6. Anthony Williams would convert on the point after attempt and Summertown would hold a 7-6 lead at the half.
The second half would be a mirror-image almost of the first quarter as the teams would alternate possessions, failing to put points on the board, with punts and turnovers telling the story for the low-scoring affair. The Panthers would be unable to find a path to score, and the Summertown Eagle defense held on to take the 7-6 victory at home over Lewis County.
Blake Carroll had 132 yards on the ground on 23 carries with a touchdown, Lincoln Brewer had 10 carries for 28 yards, Kael Feichtinger 6 carries for 25 yards, Ayden Dunn 2 carries for 8 yards, and Brycen McDonald 1 carry for 9 yards. Brycen McDonald completed 4 of 7 passes for 35 yards and 2 interceptions. Maddox Kellogg had 2 receptions for 20 yards, Dyer Barnes 1 reception for 11 yards, and Lincoln Brewer 1 reception for 4 yards.
Kael Feichtinger had 13 tackles for the Panthers with one tackle for loss, Hunter Smith 9 tackles, Jayden Stewart 8 tackles, 2 for loss, and a quarterback sack, Chaz Sparkman 6 tackles and a sack, Zander Frierson 6 tackles, Maddox Kellogg 5 tackles and an interception, Lincoln Brewer 5 tackles, Eli Carroll 3 tackles, Dominic Seiber 2 tackles and a sack, Bentley Kelsey 2 tackles, Ayden Dunn 2 tackles, Cole Farr 2 tackles, and Dyer Barnes and Ethan Ray 1 tackle each.
The Panthers' (7-2, 4-0) regular-season will close on Friday night, October 29th, as they travel to Parsons to take on the Decatur County-Riverside Panthers for the Region 6AA Championship. Both Lewis County and Decatur County-Riverside are 4-0 in Region 6AA play. Decatur County-Riverside is 8-1 on the season and riding a 5-game win streak.
