Bill Webb was elected to serve another four-year term on the MLEC Board of Directors during the cooperative's district meeting on October 28 at Lewis County High School.
Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative's 82nd Annual Meeting and 2021 Lewis County District Membership Meeting were held on October 28 at Lewis County High School. Bill Webb (177 votes) was elected to another four-year term on the MLEC Board of Directors; Travis Ray Hinson (88 votes) was also on the ballot.
The 2021 Annual Report video highlighted employee service commitments, progress over the past year, reliability upgrade plans, community involvement, and a Meriwether Lewis Connect update. The production was dedicated to communities healing from the historic flooding in August.
"As a cooperative, we are different from other electric companies," said MLEC President and CEO Keith Carnahan. "Our way of doing business is all about serving our members – that's anyone who receives power from MLEC. We're local and focused on people not poles, and members not meters. It is something our employees take great pride in living every day."
It was announced that Sam Fussell of Houston County and Wayne Qualls of Hickman County ran unopposed in their districts and were named to serve another four-year term on the MLEC Board of Directors. Also, MLEC short story contest scholarship winners Piper Belvin of Lewis County and Logan Hickerson of Perry County were recognized. Hickerson was also honored for placing second in the statewide contest through the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association.
TECA Executive Vice President and General Manager David Callis was in attendance and shared, "It is great to be here and connect with those we work with and work for. We work closely with state and national leaders any time there is a change in energy policy. Our goal is to help ensure your energy is safe, reliable, affordable and as clean as possible, but affordability is our main focus so you can continue to live your lives comfortably in your community."
Meeting attendees received an MLEC flashlight. Door prize winners of a $100 electric bill credit included Candace Bates, Donald Couch, Jerry Hildenbrandt, Barry Rawdon, and Mary Ann Walker. Winners of a $250 electric bill credit were Rosemary Bobo and Joann Hensley.
"Balancing social distancing guidelines for health and participation in the meeting was a challenge, but we were committed to making things as easy as possible while still engaging with our members," said Carnahan. "We always appreciate an opportunity to engage with those we serve."
