David Thomas was hired as the county government's new Chief Operating Officer to take the place of Johnny Clayton who recently resigned.
Thomas was Director of Radiation Oncology at Maury Regional Medical Center from 2004 to 2020 where he was responsible for "all daily operations of the department including staffing, operating budget, capital budget, coding, billing and electronic medical records documentation."
As Chief Operating Officer for the County, Thomas's responsibilities are listed as, but not limited to, Finance Officer, Human Resource Manager, Litter Grant Supervisor, Information Technology Specialist, Assistant to Lewis County Mayor, Secretary to County Commission and Economic and Community Development Coordinator.
Thomas has been involved in the medical field at Maury Regional since 1991 where he held the job titles of Certified Medical Dosimetrist for six years, Radiation Therapist for five years and X-ray Therapist for two years. He attended Columbia State Community College where he attained his Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology, Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he attained his license in Radiation Therapy and Trevecca Nazarene University where he attained his Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources and Healthcare Administration.
Thomas worked with the election commission for many years which closely dealt with the County's Chief Operating Officer. When he learned of the job opening, Thomas quickly applied knowing that he would love to have the opportunity to serve his local community.
"While working at Maury Regional, I never really had the opportunity to get involved and meet a lot of local people. I only knew a handful and I'm excited to get to know the people in Lewis County a lot better," said Thomas. "My goal [as C.O.O.] is to get to know the people and to be an asset to the County. I want to do a good job and do it well."
