The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers returned to the hardwood after the Christmas break to face the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs of Hickman County High School on Tuesday, January 4th at LCHS.
In the first game of the evening the Lady Panthers took to the floor against the Lady Bulldogs. The two teams played a close first quarter before the Lady Bulldogs were able to pull in front, as Serenity Warman led the Lady Panthers offensively in the opening eight minutes of play with 6 points and Hickman County held a 15-11 lead at the end of the first.
The Lady Bulldogs would open things up in the second quarter as they limited the Lady Panthers to 4 points while building a 32-15 halftime lead.
After the break, the Lady Panthers were able to play close to the Lady Bulldogs as Serenity Warman had 5 of the team’s 9 in the period and Hickman County held a 42-24 lead as play moved on to the fourth quarter.
Hickman County would again apply the pressure in the final eight minutes as they cruised to a 59-29 win. Serenity Warman had 13 points for Lewis County in the loss, Mya Siever added 8, and Blayr Clayton, Kerrigan Reeves, Desirae Warman, and Emily Bratcher each had 2.
In the second game of the night the Panthers and Bulldogs faced off for the second time of the season. The first quarter was a tightly played eight minutes as Dyer Barnes scored 6 early and the Bulldogs took a 14-10 lead into the second.
The Panthers began to cut into the lead in the second quarter when Barnes and Bryson Clayburn combined for nine points in the period and Hickman County held a slim 1-point lead at 22-21 as the teams went into the locker rooms for halftime.
The two teams played an even third quarter 13-13, setting up an exciting final eight minutes of action.
In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs did damage at the free-throw line, where they took 20 attempts and converted 11 to pull away to a 52-45 win. Dyer Barnes led Lewis County with 20 points, Bryson Clayburn added 14, Austin Shepherd had 6, Cade Lomax 4, and Hunter Smith 1.
