The Lewis County Middle School Lady Panthers and Panthers hosted the E.O. Coffman Lady Panthers and Panthers squared off in basketball action on Monday, January 10th in Lewis County's first action after the Christmas break.
In the girls' matchup it was the Lady Panther defense that was on point for the first six minutes of action as the shut out the Coffman girls and took a 5-0 lead into the second quarter, with Emery Norris accounting for 3 early points. Lewis County hit a wall in the second quarter on both ends of the floor as the Coffman pressure defense limited the Lady Panthers to a lone free-throw from Klayr Shepherd and took a 20-6 lead into the half. Lewis County's defense improved in the third, but the struggles continued on offense as Coffman extended their lead to 30-10 with all 4 of Lewis County's third quarter points coming from Norris. Coffman had another 10-point quarter in the fourth as the Lady Panthers fell at home 40-19. Emery Norris had 7 points in the loss, Klayr Shepherd added 4 points, Jazalyn Conner 3, Addie Osborne and Sophie Stutts 2 points each, and Gabii Ortiz 1 point.
In the boys' matchup the Coffman Panthers came out on fire as the shut down the Lewis County offense in the opening six minutes, opening up an 18-0 lead. The Panthers battled back in the second quarter, holding Coffman to a lone free-throw while putting 12 on the board behind 2 three-pointers from Bo Banks and trailed 19-12 at the half. The third quarter was an even period of action with both teams adding 9 points to their total, with Maddox Tanner contributing 5 points to the home team total, and Coffman held on to a 28-21 lead moving into the fourth quarter. The early lead built by the Coffman team was just too much to overcome as they went on to take the win 37-30. Bo Banks led the Panthers in scoring with 9 points, Jalen Smith added 8, Dakota Hull 6, Maddox Tanner 5, and Kobe Feichtinger 2.
