One Day At A Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 37

Well it is a very cold morning here in our little valley. It is 18 degrees but the sun is shining and we have the prettiest blue sky. There is still some snow left in places but it is suppose to warm up into the forties today. The old wood heating stove is doing its job and the house is good and warm.

We have finished our breakfast and I am having my second cup of coffee. The cats didn’t get up early but when they did, they were ready for their bowl of warm milk. On those really cold nights like we’ve been having, I cover them up when they go to bed - like I have said they are now spoiled.

Today I will make a big meatloaf and cook a big pot of beans, seems we eat more on these cold days. You know there were a few days we were without power and I sure am thankful to have it back. Thanks to our MLEC workers for their long hard hours to get our power back on. We made it okay but I know it had to be hard on a lot of people, I know some people only have electricity as their only source of heat, and one night recently our thermometer read 10 degrees on our porch.

Bob is doing much better - he can walk a little without his cane. It has been a little hard on us but the good Lord gives us strength and gets us through. We have got a few more weeks of cold weather then the spring flowers will bloom and the trees will bud out and we will have some good warm days.

I am getting some of my sewing done, that baby quilt that I have been working on is coming along good. I like to sit down after supper in the evening and quilt.

Seems like the covid has come back again a little stronger. I hope when it gets warm weather and people can get outside and get fresh air it will go away.

Yesterday I heard the neighbors’ old John Deere tractor coming down their driveway. They were hauling big round bales of hay to the barn to feed their cows. It takes more feed for them during this cold weather.

I guess we will have more winter weather coming up but it looks like for a few days we will have a little break. We sure had a winter time this time but we are supposed to. I know this year we have burned more firewood than last year, but we were prepared for it.

I like to see it snow but this time it seemed a little too much. The snow plows did come down Trace Creek Road and they cleared the road so people could get out. We really didn’t have to go anywhere because when we heard it was coming, we got prepared just in case we couldn’t get out. We were ready for it so we could just sit back and enjoy it.

Thanks to all the people that I have gotten cards and letters and calls from that have read my little story each week and thanks to my readers and new friends from Illinois for the sweet letter.

I am just going to take one day at a time and not worry about tomorrow because God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God Bless
