Ethan Brewer honored at LCHS baseball game

Monday night's baseball game began with a whole community coming together to celebrate the life of Ethan Brewer.

Following his untimely passing, classmates, relatives and friends began working together to do something special for him and his family.

Anna Brewer, a cousin to Ethan, and friend Savanna Collie asked for donations from their class. "When we lost Ethan, our community felt it. He was the first person we lost from the Class of 2016, and as a class we wanted to do something special for his family, loved ones and everyone he had touched," said Anna in a Facebook post. "When we asked our class to donate to buy flowers for his memorial, we never expected the outpouring of support from so many classmates... The amount of money was much MUCH more than we ever anticipated."

Brewer and Collie began working with LCHS staff members to have something placed on the Lynn Tiller Field in honor of Ethan. The class raised enough money to donate a flag pole "that will always stand in memory of Ethan," and a plaque bearing his name and a quote song of the Class of 2016, reading, "it's been a long day without you, my friend, and I'll tell you all about it when I see you again."

In her post, Anna thanked Stacey Graves, Principal of LCHS, Baseball Coach Charter Helton for helping organize the event, Kevin King for making the flag pole, Rob Inman for making the plaque and her fellow classmates who made the tribute possible.

The game was no doubt an emotional one as Ethan's family were the first to raise the flag before the game. As Ethan's father, Robert Brewer, threw the first pitch, there were no dry eyes to be found in the crowd.

After the game, Regina Brewer, Ethan's mom, posted on Facebook to thank everyone who had a part in honoring her son. "Tonight was such a special night for us. We live in a wonderful community and the outpouring of love, support and prayers have been such a blessing to us these last five months," she wrote. "Ethan Brewer loved playing baseball and this field holds a lot of great memories for us as a family, and tonight you all reminded us (again) of how great it is to live and raise a family here in Hohenwald."

As the flag raises before each game, it is no doubt that the effort made by Ethan's family, friends and classmates will be felt for years to come, along with the outpouring of love and support from a whole community. Ethan, known as "Big E" on the field, made an impact on every life he touched that will not be forgotten.
