The Lewis County Board of Education met in a regular called session on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at the Lewis County Board of Education Board Meeting Room located at 206 South Court Street. All board members were present: Chair Glenda Atkinson, Vice-Chair Johnny Clayton, Derek Cotham, Cassie Couch, Paula Dyer, Blake Farr, Lindsey Himes, Jackie Holt, and Phyllis Townsend.
The invocation was given by Billy Dyer. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Pat Couch.
Consent Agenda
Upon motion by Mr. Farr and seconded by Mrs. Himes, the Consent Agenda was approved:

Director’s Report
• Accepted leave of absence for Vicki Halfacre, LCES teacher, effective February 3, 2022, through February 17, 2022.
• Accepted leave of absence for Emily Van Hook, LCMS teacher, effective May 14, 2022, through May 21, 2022.
• Accepted leave of absence for Ashley Corbin, LCMS teacher, effective April 20, 2022, through May 21, 2022.
• Accepted leave of absence for Leslie Lyell, LCIS teacher, effective February 22, 2022, through May 21, 2022.
• Accepted letter of resignation from Bobby Sharp, LCHS head football coach, effective February 11, 2022.
• Accepted letter of resignation from Rhonda Waters, LCIS custodian, effective February 22, 2022.
Director Pace asked Sasha Powers to give the latest covid updates. Mrs. Powers informed the board members that there were no active positive cases in the schools at this time.
Mr. Pace gave the latest update on the new high school. He stated that the USDA was now running the notice of availability of an Environmental Assessment and will run for two weeks. He stated that once this is completed the loan requirements will have been met. At this point the local government will take over the process of receiving the loan. He stated that he is really hoping the groundbreaking will be in April.
Director Pace asked Mr. Trull to give the update on the Intermediate School window replacement and roof repairs. Mr. Trull informed members that the school had received a bid from Porter Roofing, and he took the contract to atorney Jack Heath. Mr. Heath reviewed it and found a few issues that he wanted changed. Mr. Trull sent the contract back to Porter Roofing. Porter Roofing agreed to everything except one item. Mr. Trull stated that there have been negotiation over emails with no resolution. He further stated that he is going to schedule a phone conference between all parties involved to try and get a resolution so that the work can start on the window replacements and roof repairs.
Unfinished Business – There was no unfinished business to discuss.
New Business
a) Resolution of commendation for Coach Bobby Sharp
WHEREAS, Bobby Sharp, has served as teacher, assistant principal, and head high school football coach in the Lewis County School System from 1988 through 2022,
WHEREAS, he has rendered thirty-four years of good and faithful service to this said school system, and;
WHEREAS, his wise counsel, good judgment, and generous support to his fellow teachers and staff will be greatly missed and is appreciated by the school system and community alike;
WHEREAS, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, on this date of March 8, 2022, in appreciation for Bobby Sharp’s dedication and commitment to our children’s education in both academics and sports in Lewis County, the Lewis County Board of Education hereby awards this Resolution of Commendation to Bobby Sharp, and authorize that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of the Board.
Upon motion by Mr. Farr and seconded by Mrs. Dyer, to group all board policies under one vote was approved.
Upon motion by Ms. Couch and seconded by Mrs. Dyer, item (b) under new business was approved.

Announcements
Chair Atkinson informed the members that the next regular scheduled meeting will be April 12, 2022. She also informed board members that she had talked with Mr. Qualls about the procedures on applying for the director of schools’ position. She stated that there is information on the TOSS website and the Lewis County Schools website also.
Adjournment
Upon motion by Mrs. Dyer and seconded by Mrs. Townsend, the meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
