Thompson awarded Governor's Volunteer Star

Sandra Thompson received Volunteer Tennessee's "Governor's Volunteer Star" award in honor of her commitment and volunteerism for our community.

The certificate read, "Her commitment to helping others through volunteerism epitomizes the spirit of the Volunteer State."

Following her Chamber of Commerce Award for "Best Supporting Volunteer," Mrs. Thompson was nominated for the Governor's Volunteer Star by Chamber of Commerce Director Debbie Landers who also serves as the County Coordinator for Lewis County.

The Governor's Volunteer Star Awards is an initiative from Volunteer Tennessee that "seeks to recognize outstanding volunteers from each of Tennessee's 95 counties," according to their website.

Volunteer Tennessee is the 25-member bipartisan board appointed by the Governor to oversee AmeriCorps and service-learning programs, advancing volunteerism and citizen service to solve community problems in the Volunteer State.

"These volunteers are the backbone of our communities, and by donating their time and talents to fulfill needs that would otherwise go unmet, they embody the spirit of giving," read Thompson's certificate.

Volunteer Tennessee hosts the Governor's Volunteer Stars Awards and the Tennessee Conference on Volunteerism and Service-Learning to encourage volunteerism and community service across the state. This year will mark their fourteenth annual celebration.

In her congratulatory letter from Jim Snell, Volunteer Tennessee's Executive Director, he wrote, "I commend your outstanding record of dedication and selfless service to others. Each exceptional Volunteer Star was chosen... for their innovative approach and generous commitment to improving their community."

It is no doubt that Lewis County has been made a better place through Mrs. Thompson's dedication to the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund and her many other efforts for the community.
