One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 46

Well it is a cool and cloudy morning here in our little valley. We have seen several mornings with frost, but the peach trees are still blooming and I noticed that the old apple tree is trying to bloom. Old man winter is trying to hold on as long as possible but it won’t be long now.

The cats were really hungry this morning. It didn’t take them long to finish the bowl of good warm milk, and then they were sitting there looking up at me and then back to the bowl like “Where’s the Milk!!”.

It has been a busy week for us. We did some cleaning, I did get some of the windows washed. I washed a couple of quilts and hung them out on the clothes line, they sure smelled fresh and clean. I will have to put them away until winter.

I canned some white beans, they are easy to can and when I am in a hurry or have unexpected company, I can open a couple jars and put a little piece of country ham in them and get them hot and we’re ready to eat.

We are having meatloaf and white beans and cornbread and good sweet tea for lunch today.

The gardens may be a little late this year but I have talked to several people and they are ready to get started. Just a few years ago groceries were not as expensive as they are nowadays. With the price of groceries going up almost every week now it seems more people are talking about having a garden, but at mine and Bobs age it is not as easy to have one as it used to be. Our kids and neighbors and friends always try to plant extra and usually have plenty for us also if we need it.

It seems the covid and other viruses are slowing down or at least we don’t hear as much about them. It seems we may have gotten through another crisis, it sure has touched a lot of lives. I was thinking the other day, back about a year ago it seemed things were going good and then almost overnight there was sickness and death. People lost jobs or couldn’t work, kids couldn’t go to school like usual, families couldn’t get together and people couldn’t even go to church. But people prayed more and prayed for one another. Seems we all know where to go when things get really bad. So we hang onto God and talk to Him a lot more and that is where we get our strength to go on and where strangers become friends. Through the bad times I was able to look at things differently and because of that I have grown stronger and I have gotten to know God better and we are a lot closer.

I have finished my coffee and the cats did get some more warm milk and they are snuggled back down in their beds. Bob has got the dishes washed and the kitchen cleaned. The sun is shining now so I may get to hang some clothes out on the line. It will be a good day.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am just going to take one day at a time because God has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God Bless
