The Lewis County High School Panther opened up play in their 2022 baseball season at home against The Spring Hill Raiders on Monday, March 14th at Lynn Tiller Field.
Brycen McDonald took the mound to start for the Panthers and worked a scoreless first inning and not allowing a baserunner. Blake Carroll started the home first off with a single but the Panthers went down in the first without scoring. McDonald was solid again in the second inning getting two quick outs before an error allowed the first Raider to reach base, but he escaped with no runs scoring. Brody Whitlow drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the second for Lewis County but was left stranded and the game remained scoreless through two complete. A leadoff single for the Raiders started the third, and a one-out double followed by a single plated two for the visitors and Spring Hill took a 2-0 lead. Carroll connected for a two-out single in the bottom of the third and Kael Feichtinger followed with a walk ahead of an RBI single by Sloan Moseley that made it a 2-1 game. The Raiders drew a leadoff walk in the fourth and would push another run across to pull back up by two runs at 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth Brody Whitlow collected a two-out single to left, but remained stranded at the end of the inning. McDonald worked a perfect fifth, striking out one, and the Panthers went down in order in the bottom half to keep the Spring Hill lead at 3-1. McDonald worked around a leadoff double to hold off the Raiders in the sixth. The Panthers would draw back-to-back walks to start the home half of the sixth, but failed to plate any runs and the score held at 3-1. Blake Carroll relieved McDonald in the seventh and worked around a one-out single to hold Spring Hill scoreless. In their final at-bat of the game, Lewis County got a single from Bentley Kelsey to lead off the seventh and a one-out single by Steele Moseley, but the Panthers failed to score and Spring Hill took the 3-1 win.
