Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898

Community Clean-up Plus Cash Prizes

Leadership Lewis 2022 is hosting a countywide litter clean-up event, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. CDT, April 30. Lewis County residents are invited to gather at the Lewis County Library parking lot, 15 Kyle Ave. Hohenwald to participate in this exciting day of community improvement.

This event is part of Keep Tennessee Beautiful’s latest initiative, Trashercise, which encourages litter pick-up while promoting the exercise benefits of the activity. On Saturday litter will be picked-up along the main highways into Lewis County, along with the Memorial Park location. To urge participation, Leadership Lewis is providing cash prizes of $500, $200, $100. Prizes are sponsored by TVA, Lewis County Government, and TN Happy Homes, respectively. TCAT Hohenwald is also a sponsor, providing a $50 gift card.

“We’re excited to host Trashercise across Lewis County,” COO David Thomas, Lewis County Government, said. “This is a great opportunity to get outside, have some fun, and even win some prizes. I encourage everyone to join us and help make a difference in our community.”

In addition to the litter pick-up, individuals are urged to bring their old car-sized tires to be discarded. The first 100 tires can be brought in for free. Trucks and trailers from the LC Landfill will be on site.

Trashercise is an exciting campaign for Keep Tennessee Beautiful” said Missy Marshall, executive director of KTnB. “These events give our citizens an opportunity to get outside, exercise and do something productive for the community. It’s a way to tap into the volunteer spirit of Tennesseans.”

Litter is an enormous burden to the state both financially and ecologically, costing the state more than $15 million annually. In order to end littering, behavioral changes and public awareness are an absolute necessity.
