Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898

Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is recognized nationwide as Child Abuse Prevention month. Hohenwald Mayor Danny McKnight and Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner (seated, left-right), signed a proclamation in April 2022 "to be CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH in Hohenwald/Lewis County, Tennessee, and call upon all citizens, community agencies, religious organizations, medical facilities, and businesses to increase their participation in efforts to prevent child abuse, thereby strengthening the communities in which we live."

Present for the signing of the proclamation were, back, from left, City Councilman Cody Mitchell, Lindsey Honea, Forensic Interviewer and DeAnna Darden-Carroll, Director of Services for Davis House Child Advocacy Center, Mike Webb, Lewis County Trustee and Davis House Advisory Committee, Sandra Clayton, Lewis County Clerk and Cheryl Staggs, Lewis County Register of Deeds.

Davis House Child Advocacy is a non-profit organization that provides investigative and healing services to children and their families who have experienced significant abuse or other types of trauma.

All services are provided at no cost.

Davis House has provided services to Lewis County since 1999, with an office in Hohenwald that opened in 2006. They are able to provide free services by holding fundraisers, competing for grants, and with financial support from individuals and businesses.

There is no other agency that offers the services available through Davis House, which embody the charge of the proclamation to prevent child abuse and strengthen our communities.

"We offer child abuse prevention training to anyone, from a small group of friends to large organizations and everything in between," stated DeAnna Darden-Carroll, Director of Services for Davis House. "The information we provide can be customized to fit the needs and time constraints of the group, as well as their schedule. Child abuse happens in Lewis County, and our numbers confirm that fact. If we are able to prevent it from happening and help the children who have experienced it heal, we can be stronger communities."
