Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
In celebration of National Trails Day, the Lewis County Public Library and Archives partnered with Ranger Jeremy Childs from the Natchez Trace Parkway for a family-friendly hike. Hikers learned about the Warsaw and St. Louis limestone that rests just below the Trace. Ranger Jeremy shared a fossilized Great White Shark Tooth, a bivalve shell, a crinoid (or sea lily), and coral that he found along the Natchez Trace. Along the hike, Ranger Childs pointed out plants to avoid, like poison ivy, plants to keep like hookweed and sassafras, and showed the areas that had been worn down by the number of people and animals who used the Trace as their main thoroughfare. Thank you Ranger Jeremy, Natchez Trace Parkway, and all of our participants who went "Natchez Trace-ing" with us.
The library's next family event is the Storybook Walk at the Ag Pavilion in Memorial Park on Friday, June 10 at 10 a.m.
