The Lewis County High School Panthers hosted the Perry County Vikings on Tuesday, May 3rd in their final home matchup of the 2022 baseball season.

Hayden Jackson took the mound to start for Lewis County and worked a scoreless first while striking out 1. Fletch Kelsey walked to lead off the home first and worked around the basepaths to score on a wild pitch to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Jackson was again perfect in the second, and Lincoln Brewer would lead off the bottom half with a walk but was unable to cross and Lewis County went into the third with a one-run lead. Brycen McDonald relieved Jackson to start the third and worked a perfect inning while striking out two, Brayden Whitlow would reach on a one-out single but be left stranded in scoring position. McDonald induced three straight groundouts in the visitor fourth to keep the Vikings hitless, and in the home half Ethan Ray would single with two outs but the Panthers would again be kept off the board. Fletch Kelsey came on to pitch in the fifth and surrendered a leadoff single that would lead to the Vikings tying the game with a two-out, run-scoring single to left to make it a 1-1 game. Sam Moore led off the Panther fifth reaching on a misplayed bunt and would score on a double by Kelsey. Kelsey would cross on an RBI single by Brayden Whitlow and McDonald would drive a two-run homerun over the left field fence to stretch the Panther lead to 5-1. Lincoln Brewer would walk and come around to score on a passed ball to make it a 6-1 game moving into the sixth. Ethan Ray took the mound to start the Viking sixth and worked around a one-out walk for a scoreless half-inning. Moore would again reach on an error and score on a Kelsey single. After consecutive walks to Brayden Whitlow and Blake Carrol loaded the bases, Kael Feichtinger delivered a two-run single and McDonald drew a walk to load the bases . Ethan Ray would end the game with a one-out single that plated two and gave the Panthers an 11-1 victory.

Fletch Kelsey had 2 hits, a double, 3 runs, and 2 RBI, Brayden Whitlow 2 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI, Ethan Ray 2 hits and 2 RBI, Brycen McDonald a homerun, a run scored, and 2 RBI, Kael Feichtinger a hit, a run, and 2 RBI, Sam Moore 2 runs scored, Blake Carroll a run scored, and Lincoln Brewer a run scored. Hayden Jackson went 2 innings giving up no hits while striking out 2. Brycen McDonald 2 innings with no hits and 2 strikeouts, Fletch Kelsey 1 inning with 2 hits, 1 run, and 2 strikeouts, and Ethan Ray 1 innin allowing 1 walk and striking out 1.

The Lewis County Panthers opened up District tournament play on Friday, May 6th travelling to Giles County to face the Bobcats.

Brayden Whitlow drew a one-out walk in the first but was left stranded in a scoreless first. Brycen McDonald took the mound to start for Lewis County and worked a perfect half-inning to keep the score tied at zero. The Panthers went down in order in the second, and Giles County would get a leadoff homerun to take a 1-0 lead into the third. The Panthers were again set down in order in the visitor third, and McDonald worked around a one-out error to hold the Bobcats in check. Lewis County would put something together in the fourth as Blake Carroll drew a one-out walk , Kael Feichtinger followed with a single to left, and McDonald was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Lincoln Brewer plated Carroll on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1. Mcdonald walked the first batter and a misplayed ground ball put two aboard with no outs. A single would bring in one run, and another would cross on a passed ball that gave the Bobcats a 3-1 lead. Brody Whitlow and Sam Moore started the fifth with singles, but the Panthers were unable to capitalize and trailed by 2 moving into the bottom half of the fifth. The game would be interrupted by weather with one on and one out in the home half of the fifth and would be called with Giles County leading and taking the win.

Kael Feichtinger, Brody Whitlow, and Sam Moore each had singles for the Panthers, Blake Carroll scored a run, and Lincoln Brewer drove in one. Brycen McDonald went 4 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3.

The Lewis County Panthers were the home team in the District 10AA tournament matchup with the Summertown Eagles on Monday, May 9th.

Hayden Jackson took the mound to start for Lewis County and breezed through the top of the lineup striking out two in a scoreless first. Fletch Kelsey drew a walk to lead off the bottom half of the first, and Blake Carroll and Kael Feichtinger would provide back-to-back one-out singles to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Jackson would run into trouble in the second as Summertown started the inning with a pair of singles and fielder’s choice hit that loaded the bases ahead of a two-run single. Another fielder’s choice single loaded the bases again and a one-out grand slam made it a 6-1 game. Summertown would tack on another run on a two-out walk and double to extend the lead to 7-1 after two complete. The Panthers went down in order in the third, and Fletch Kelsey, who retired the final out in the second, returned to the mound to start the third. A hit batter, a walk, and a one-out single loaded the bases and the Eagles would plate two more runs to make it a 9-1 game. Feichtinger connected on a two-out single, but the Panthers were held scoreless in the third. Kelsey worked around a two-out single in the visitor fourth. Lincoln Brewer singled to start the home fourth, but the Panthers were again kept off the board. A one-out error and a two-out fielder’s choice hit would set up the Eagles to score on another Panther miscue in the field to score a run and make it an 11-1 game. With one down in the fifth, Kelsey was hit by a pitch and Brayden Whitlow singled before Blake Carroll was intentionally walked to load the bases. Feichtinger singled to left to bring home Kelsey, and a fielder’s choice groundout by Brycen McDonald plated Whitlow to make it an 11-3 game. Kelsey retired the Eagles in order in the sixth, and the Panther went down in order in the home half. Summertown started the seventh with a single and a two-run homerun to make it a 13-3 game. Lewis County loaded the bases to start the bottom of the seventh with singles from Kelsey and Brayden Whitlow and a walk to Blake Carroll. Feichtinger delivered an RBI single , but the next three Panthers would go down and the Panther season would come to an end in a 13-4 loss to Summertown.

Kael Feichtinger had 4 hits and 3 RBI in the game, Brayden Whitlow had 2 hits and 2 runs, Fletch Kelsey a hit and 2 runs, Blake Carroll a hit, Lincoln Brewer a hit, and Brycen McDonald an RBI. Hayden Jackson went 1 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4. Fletch Kelsey went 5 1/3 innings and gave up 6 runs, 2 earned, on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 8.
