Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898

Blake Farr seeks re-election

My dear friends,

My name is Blake Farr and the time has come for me to announce that I am seeking re-election for the ninth district school board seat in the upcoming August election.

For those I have not had the privilege of meeting, I am the son of Matthew and Kara Farr and the grandson of Kay Long Parrish and the late Joe Long and the late Horace Farr and Vestal Farr. I have worked at McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald for the past seven years. I started as a visitation assistant and now I am a licensed funeral director.

I am also privileged to serve as the chairman of the Lewis County Public Library and Archives Board of Trustees, and I also serve as vice-chair of the Lewis County Cancer Victims Fund Board. In September of 2019, I was appointed to the Lewis County Board of Education by the Lewis County Commission. In August of 2020, I was honored to be elected by the ninth district to continue serving. During the last three years, I have worked as hard as I possibly could to be a voice for kids in this community and an advocate for teachers and all employees of this system.

I have also attended numerous school board academies, trainings, and meetings conducted by the Tennessee School Boards Association. All of these have helped me greatly to know my role as a school board member. In the fall of this year, if re-elected, I will reach the status of a "Level II" board member with TSBA.

In the last few months, I have been asked numerous times "Why do you want to be a school board member?" I am not fortunate enough to have children of my own, but I do have one kid in the school system here that happens to be my best friend. That would be my brother, Cole Farr. He is a junior at Lewis County High School. In my eyes, every kid that goes to school here is my little brother or sister. I want them to have every opportunity that they can be afforded. I want them to be given what they deserve to flourish in school. If I can help that by continuing to be a school board member, then so be it.

I also happen to be the proud son of a public school teacher, Mrs. Kara Farr. She has taught at Lewis County Elementary School since August of 2011. I have spent many hours with her in the school helping her in any way I could. I have seen how hard she has worked and while there, I have also watched other teachers, janitors, cafeteria staff members, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, and support staff members work as hard as they could to educate children. I like to think of every employee of this system as if they were my mother or father and I am going to continue doing everything in my power to make sure they are taken care of.

While the rights of our teachers are slowly being taken away by lawmakers, we need school board members who are not afraid to stand up and say something about it. We also need board members who will continue to be as transparent as possible. I hope to be given the opportunity to continue serving.

Due to the nature of my job at the funeral home, I am not able to get out and campaign as much as I would like to. I am working as hard as I can to make my way around the district, but if I happen to miss you I would greatly appreciate your vote and support. Early voting is July 15-July 30 and Election Day is August 4, 2022.
