The gun smoke cleared, and there were no mirrors, Lewis County has some of the best sharp shooters in the nation!

The competition lasted from Monday, July 11, to Saturday, July 16, 2022, each day was a different discipline to shoot in. Lewis County's sharp shooters took part in things like doubles trap, handicap trap, sporting clays and skeet. Over 3,500 youth athletes and 300 teams compete at the national level, representing over 30 different states. The best part is, more than 160 scholarships are awarded to the athletes! The Scholastic Clay Target Program also reported that more than 12 semi trucks of clay targets get thrown during the competition and over 2.5 million rounds of ammunition are fired.
Ashmore, Bean, Burcham, Carroll and Zoie Clark formed the senior varsity team who ranked ninth in Doubles Trap, 14th in Handicap Trap, and finished 20th out of 127 in Singles Trap as a squad!
There weren't enough kids to form another team, but each one did great in their own right.

This landed her as Champion out of 227 athletes in her ladies varsity division! She also won First in Doubles Trap with a score of 185 out of 200!
Ashmore then earned one of the 5 coveted spots on the All State singles trap shooting team with her 100 straight from the SCTP state competition. This 5 member team represented Tennessee competing with other all state teams from across the nation.
