Local educators attend International Convention

Seven members of Alpha Rho Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (DKG), joined women educators from around the globe in New Orleans, Louisiana on Tuesday, July 12 through Saturday, July 16, 2022. DKG is a professional honor society for women educators with more than 66,000 members. Established in 17 member countries around the world, the Society defines its mission as promoting professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

The four-day event included keynote speakers Courtney Clark, Ingvi Omarsson, and Becky Sadowski. Clark is a motivational speaker and author of two books, the most recent being The Successful Struggle: Powerful Techniques to Achieve Accelerated Resilience. Omarsson is an acclaimed Icelandic educator who was voted Iceland teacher of the year in 2018; he received the Icelandic Educational Award in 2020 for his contributions to education. Sadowski is the 2020-2022 DKG International president.

The convention offered more than 60 breakout sessions providing participants with cutting-edge knowledge on communications/technology, educational excellence, empowering women, legislative advocacy, leadership, and more. Takeaway mini-sessions and stations for technical trainings using one's own device were also held through-out the event.

Alpha Rho Chapter was founded in 1959 and is comprised of educators from Hickman, Lewis, Perry, and Wayne County. Attending the conference were Orlean Bauman, Judy England, Dr. Beverly Hall, Barbara Hinson, Myra Martin, Chasity Ragsdale, and Janice Stooksberry. Alpha Rho members were active throughout the event with Ragsdale, a DKGNext member, presenting possibilities at the Fifth General Session. Hall conducted a workshop titled EEC Corner Spotlight: Chapter Programs and Projects and was elected and installed as the 2022-2024 International Second Vice President. England spoke at the US Forum and is the 2022-2024 Alpha Rho Chapter President.

Alpha Rho Chapter meets monthly in Hohenwald, Tennessee and provides a variety of professional development opportunities and programs for members and contributes to various projects such as Schools for Africa; World Fellowship; Educational Excellence, Early Career Education, Early Literacy, and more.
