Fair is in the air!

That time of the year has finally come where the smell of funnel cakes is in the air!

While the South Central Area Fair will take place starting Tuesday, August 31, with Family Night, there will be several events leading up to the long-awaited carnival rides, games, Jump n' Run and Demolition Derby.

The annual South Central Area Fair, Fairest of the Fair Pageant has been scheduled for Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the Lewis County Middle School Auditorium which is located at 207 South Court Street.

The pageant is open to all counties and all ages. Those who wish to participate can register online for $30 or can register at the door for $40.

The winner for the Tiny Tots category will receive a trophy, crown, sash and $25 cash.

The winner of the Miss category will receive a trophy, crown, sash, $500 cash, $500 for hair and makeup and $250 for her dress. All to be used toward the State Competition.

The winner of the Ms. category will receive a trophy, crown, sash and $500 cash if there are at least 10 entries.

Bark in the Park

Bark in the Park, our local UT Extension office's annual Fashion Dog Show, is scheduled for this Monday, August 29, 2022, at 7:00 in the evening at the new Ag Pavilion at Memorial Park.

Pre-registration is required to enter the dog show. The deadline is Friday, August 26, 2022, with a $5 entry fee. All proceeds go to the Lewis County 4-H program.

There will be prizes offered to the top contenders. First place will earn $150, second place will earn $100 and third place will earn $50.

Poultry Show and Sale

On Monday, August 29, 2022, the UT Extension Office has planned a 4-H Poultry Show and Sale! This event will be held at the New Ag Pavillion at Memorial Park at 5:00 in the evening.

There you will be able to see 4-H students showing off their chickens. An auction will follow.

Old Timey Roots Exhibit

The UT Extension Office will also host an Old Timey Roots Exhibit, starting Tuesday and continuing throughout the week for the public's enjoyment.

The exhibit will consist of items such as food preservation, baked goods, embroidery, amateur photo, craft corner, quilts and afghans. Items will be available for purchase and must be picked up by Friday, September 9, 2022, between 8:30 in the morning and 4:00 in the afternoon. Exhibits can be brought to the UT Extension office prior to Monday, August 29 or on that day between the hours of 5:00-7:00 at the High Forest Room.

Each entry fee will be $1.00 per lot entered with only one entry per person in each category. Only products made or grown since last year's fair may be exhibited except quilts, photos and crafts. All entry fees will go to Lewis County 4-H to support educational programs and camps.

First place will receive $10 and the Grand Champion will receive $20.

South Central Area Fair

This year's carnival will be a little different as it is no longer a Kissel carnival. Prices will vary depending on the night you wish to attend.

Tuesday, August 30, will officially kick off this year's South Central Area Fair with a Game Show night at $15 per person. Buy three tickets, get the fourth for free. Contestants can win thousands in cash and prizes.. Yes, you read that right, THOUSANDS! Members from the audience will be selected at random.

Family Night, sponsored by Big H Plumbing, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 31, where instead of the usual $15 to grant you an all access pass, it'll just be $12! Gates open at 6:00 and events start at 7:00 in the evening with registration at the arena. The events will be Kid's Money Drop, Powerwheels Derby and Kid's-Tug of-War.

Thursday and Friday will be the usual $15 a pop and will feature the Junk Car Jump N' Run. To register your car for the Jump N' Run, head on over to scafair.org.

Saturday night will be everyone's favorite event, the Demolition Derby. This night will cost $20 per person. Prizes for this event depend on your desired category with the biggest payout being Pro Stock at $3,000 for the First Place winner and $1,500 for Second.
