One Day at a Time

Series: One day at a time | Story 66

Well it is another beautiful morning here in our little valley. It is cool and very comfortable here on the front porch. The cats have had their breakfast and are now taking a nap. All the birds are busy and I have seen a few squirrels. There is a tree here in the yard that has a hole up in it and the squirrels are going up and down that old tree, they may be storing up their food for the winter. We were down at the creek and I saw a lot of nuts on the ground, so there is going to be plenty of food for the animals.

We are just three months until Thanksgiving and then Christmas, where has this year gone? It has been a busy one for us. I have canned some thanks to our neighbor bringing us some great vegetables. This spring and summer we have done some much needed outside work. Now it is about time to start doing some fall cleaning before the weather turns cold, we need to wash the outside of the windows and there are a lot of spider webs and their webs are up high, I think the old saying is that the higher the spiders build their webs the more snow we will get. People used to have a lot of old sayings and people used to plan their lives around them, but today most folks just laugh at the old sayings.

I went to the grocery store the other day and the food prices are still going up a little. The cost of living is still going up, but I think we are all adjusting to these higher prices a little better now. We are all having to slow down a little and use common sense and think about what we are doing, I know I have been. Used to be if I needed anything I would get in the car and go to town and get it, now I realize how much it is costing in money and time, so now I make a list of what all I need and I make just one trip. I think I am a little smarter now even if I am just a silly old woman.

We were out running errands and I saw several people cutting hay, it looks like there was a lot made this time. The rain we had really helped the farmers, they are working hard and storing up for the winter, they have got to feed those cows during the cold months of winter.

I guess Hunter will start cutting our firewood for this winter before long. Bobby keeps the old wood heating stove ready for us, he always checks it out and cleans it and the flue right before cold weather starts and right after the cold weather ends, he says that way it works better and is safer.

Bob is still improving but keep praying for him because he is not back to washing dishes, I mean not back to normal. I think Dr. Kamal needs to clear him to do at least some dish washing, isn’t that right Dr. Kamal?

I sure have enjoyed this time on the front porch, this is the best way to start my day. I have got a lot to do today. I got my laundry done yesterday so today I will do some cleaning. I am going to cook a big pot of turnip greens today and fry some sweet potatoes and make a gallon of good sweet iced tea.

Thank you all for the cards and little notes about reading my stories each week, that is so sweet and I am glad you all can get a little blessing and enjoyment from reading them. It is a blessing for me to be able to write them and I feel closer to the Lord.

I am not going to worry about tomorrow and I am going to take one day at a time because God still has it all under control and He is the light at the end of the tunnel.

God bless
