Panthers fall to Fayetteville

The Lewis County High School Panthers travelled to Fayetteville for their first road test of the 2022 season against the Fayetteville Tigers on Friday, August 26th.

The first quarter of action was marked by tough defense from both teams as the Panthers and Tigers were both held out of the endzone in a scoreless opening twelve minutes.

Fayetteville struck first on a 10-yard scoring strike but were unable to convert the two-point conversion and held a 6-0 lead with nine and a half minutes to play in the half.

The Panther offense was held at bay and the Tigers were in position to add to their lead with just over two minutes to go in the half when they punched it in from two yards out and converted the two-point run to take a 14-0 lead in at the half.

Fayetteville would strike midway through the third quarters on another 10-yard touchdown pass and a successful conversion to extend their lead to 22-0.

The host would tack on another score in the second via a three-yard dive and conversion to make it 30-0 through three quarters of action.

Lewis County would finally mount a scoring drive in the fourth quarter as Lincoln Brewer bolted into the endzone on a 9-yard touchdown run, and Brycen McDonald would connect with Bentley Kelsey on the two-point conversion to make it a 30-8 game.

Fayetteville would tack on another score with just over seven minutes to play to make the score 38-8, which would be the final.

Lincoln Brewer had 52 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown and Kai Boaque had 2 yards on a carry. Brycen McDonald was 17-30 passing for 145 yards and an interception. Dyer Barnes had 8 receptions for 104 yards, Bentley Kelsey 6 receptions for 26 yards, Dominic Seiber 1 for 12, Chaz Sparkman 1 for 3,and Lincoln Brewer caught 1 pass for no gain.

Lincoln Brewer and Dyer Barnes each had 9 tackles for the Panther defense, Dominic Seiber 8 tackles, Nataniel Caamal 7 tackles, Chaz Sparkman 5 tackles, Bentler Kelsey and Eli Carroll 4 tackles each, Malachi Bruce 3 tackles, Ethan Ray 2 tackles and an interception, Kai Bosque, Nathan Hamblin, and Bishop Sparkman 2 tackles each, Riley Ray a tackle and a fumble recovery, and Nick Barnes, Samuel Moore, Brycen McDonald, Logan Graves, Austin Churchwell, Brennan Davis, Jaylen Murphy, and Kade Carroll 1 tackle each.

The Panthers return home on Friday, September 2, to face the East Hickman Eagles to open Region 5-AA play. Game time is 7 p.m. at Bobby W. Sharp Stadium.
