The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers volleyball squad travelled to Loretto to face the Loretto Lady Mustangs on Thursday, September 1st.
The Lady Panther junior varsity squared off with the Lady Mustang junior varsity in the opening match. Loretto struck early, running off consecutive point streaks to open the first set. Lewis County’s junior varsity girls struggled to break service and keep service throughout the opening set. Loretto pulled away to a 25-7 win in the first set of JV play. In the second set the Lady panther junior varsity was able to maintain service more consistently, but Loretto continued to force the issue with point runs that allowed them to open up a lead and finish off the Lady Panthers 25-11. Loretto’s junior varsity took the JV match 2-0.
The varsity match between the Lady Panthers and Lady Mustangs followed the JV match. Loretto came into the match sporting a 10-4 record and established their dominance early in the first set. Using a combination of strong service and aggressive net play, the Lady Mustangs overwhelmed the Lady Panthers from the first rotation. The Lady Mustangs dominated the opening set, winning 25-5. Following the break, Loretto continued to come at the Lady Panthers with their aggressive play, and the Lady Panthers continued to struggle with the pace of play. Loretto pulled out early to a 10-2 lead after two rotations and continued to press the Lady Panthers. Loretto would take the second set of play by a score of 25-6. In the third and final set of varsity play, Loretto looked to finish off the Lady Panthers early. Riding a pair of 5-point streaks in the opening two rotations, Loretto built a 12-2 lead and never looked back, taking the final set 25-9 and taking the match 3-0.
