Ford Turnbow and Buford Ogg shot a bob cat that lounged at them while hunting on Swan Creek.
Wanda Talley volunteered into the Waves on September 17 and would take her boot training in Bainbridge, MD.
4-H club members attended the Tennessee State Fair. G.Y. Bennett, Charles Edwards, and Murray Johnston placed 11th in a field of 26 in crops judging. Wylie Carroll, Glen Floyd, Gayther Hinson, Jr., and Wayne Tharpe placed 17 out of 31 in livestock. Gene Nafa, Bobby Voorhies, and Larry Westbrooks placed 33 out of 36 in dairy.
Funeral services were held for Herman Milam, 33; and for Annie Tanner, 27.
"Wagon Master," starring Ben Johnson and Harry Carey, Jr.; and "Mystery Submarine," starring MacDonald Carey and Marta Toren were the Friday and Saturday night double feature show at the Highlands Drive-In Theatre.
"California Conquest," starring Cornel Wild and Teressa Wright, and "the Gun Man," starring Whip Wilson, were the Friday and Saturday double feature showing at the Strand Theatre.

J.H. Warf was appointed to the business and corporation committee of the University of Tennessee Development Council.
Hohenwald, having received an award for being a clean town in 1961, once again entered into the clean town contest. Residents were asked to not toss litter along both business and residential streets.
LCHS Panthers won their third game of the season when they defeated Waynesboro 7 to 0.
Gary Tatum killed a 20-pound bobcat while hunting in Lewis County.
Jackie Duncan completed USN basic training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA.
Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Tuttle were honored by a group of their friends with a surprise housewarming at their new home.
Mr. and Mrs. Billy Griner announced the birth of their son, David Sherman.
Funeral services were held for Pairlee Whitehead, 86.
Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company advertised that they would have a trailer truck with exhibits ranging from a satellite model to telephones of the past, present, and future, on exhibit at the front of their central office on West First Street on October 4th.
"Strangers When We Meet," starring Kirk Douglas, Kim Novak, and Ernie Kovacs; and "Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki," starring Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride, were the Friday and Saturday double feature shown at both Highlands Drive-In and Strand Theatres.
In area news: two Perry County men were killed when their single engine Cessna crashed at the Waverly airport. Two other Perry County men had been traveling in the plane during the return trip from a baseball game, but decided to drive home when the plane had made a stop at Sheffield, AL.
September 28, 1972
Weeks Chevrolet-Pontiac and the Lewis County Farmers Cooperative were both broken into during the previous weekend with only minor items reported missing.
The Lewis County Civic Club voted to sponsor a free public concert performance of the Air Force University Band from Maxwell Air Force Base, AL on December 4th.
LCHS Panthers won their third victory of the season with a 6 to 0 win over the previously undefeated Bellevue. Steve Ellis had 19 carries for 63 yards.
Judy Ritchie was one of three members of the Division of Public Health Nursing to publish an instructional manual, Guide for Teaching the Diabetic, for the use of Health Department nurses.
Paul Gandy caught an 11 pound, 2-ounce muskellunge while fishing in Laurel Hill Lake.

Mrs. Jimmy Hurt was the winner of the Championship Flight of the Ladies Club Tournament at the Hohenwald Recreation and Golf Club.
Mark Sisco was elected business manager for the Freed-Hardeman College Student Alumni Association.
A Hee Haw-type variety show was scheduled to be held at the LCES auditorium on September 25th & 26th to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Page celebrated their 62nd anniversary.
Sannie Odil was honored for her birthday with a surprise dinner at the Golden Saddle Restaurant.
Estalee Graves was honored for her 82nd birthday with a dinner at Jack's Branch at Meriwether Lewis Park.

"Beastmaster," starring Marc Singer and Tanya Roberts, and "Tarzan" were the weekend double feature at the Highlands Drive-In.

Emmett Reed submitted the winning seal design that would be used in the Sesquicentennial Celebration in Lewis County during 1993. Reed's entry featured the Meriwether Lewis Monument. He was presented $100. Seven other people entered the contest.
W.G. Darden was inducted into the Small Business Hall of Fame in Lewis County, and Byrne Dunn was presented the annual Civic Heritage Award at the Chamber of Commerce Banquet held on September 24th.
Rocco Pierce was named the new pastor of the Hohenwald Church of Christ.
Sue Sharp was featured in the weekly "Teacher Feature" column.
Christopher Bean was promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of senior airman.
Gold Star Mothers in Lewis County were honored at a civic reception held September 27th by the Pilot Club of Hohenwald.
Jennifer Durham was chosen as 1992 LCHS Homecoming Queen. Members of her court were Mickey Cagle, Christy Garner, Shacie Garrison, and Gena Waldrum.
The LCHS Panthers defeated Giles County with a score of 27 to 14. Benji Rainey led the team in tackles with 10 and Brent Johns led the team in rushing with 125 yards on 12 carries.
Amanda Adcox and Heather Bowen were chosen as LCMS Women of the Week. Matt Tiller was chosen as the LCMS Man of the Week.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hargrave grew a sweet potato that weighed four pounds and a sweet potato shaped like a figure "8" in their garden.
The LCHS Golf Team won the District 7A-AA Tournament held at Henry Horton State Park.
Brad and Diana Holt announced the birth of their daughter, MaKenzie Rene.

A Lewis County man was apprehended by the Sheriff's Department with the cooperation of the Police Department and the Drug Task Force after he shot another man four times and threatened to shoot two other people.
Lewis County School Resource Officers placed several drug charges at LCHS with more pending. Charges included possession, casual exchange, and drug paraphernalia for marijuana, schedule VI drugs, and prescription drugs.
The Kenneth Whitehead Memorial Mule Pull, organized by the Little Swan Hunting Club, was held September 21 with 33 teams from area counties and states pulling.
Two teams tied for first place in the Lewis County Jaycees 1st Annual Scavenger Hunt. Members of the winning teams were Floyd, Theresa, Donya, and Dustin Culberson; Tommy and Sandra Clayton, Jason and Brandy Fite. All proceeds went to the Needy Children's Christmas Fund.
Alex Harries donated her hair to Wigs for Kids, a non-profit organization providing hair replacement solutions for children affected by hair loss due to medical conditions.
Robert Treadwell retired from Dana Corporation after 37 years of service.
Kenneth Bates won a 1994 Buick Skylark in a contest given held by Tennessee Traders.
The LCHS Panthers defeated Fairview with a score of 14 to 0. David Sharp led the offense with 12 rushes for 115 yards, and Jimbo Dodson led the defense with 11 tackles.
The following births were announced: Addison Faith and Aidan Phillip, twins of Devin and Jennifer Johns; Zackary Andrew, son of Eddie and Angela Wheatley; Charlie Everett, son of Kevin and Amanda Edmonson; and Danielle Marie, daughter of Daniel and Katrina Noll.
Bernice Clay was honored for her 70th birthday with a cookout held at her cabin on the Buffalo River.
Marie Carroll was honored for her 89th birthday with a dinner held at the Little Swan Community Building.
Funeral services were held for Danny Carroll, 48.
