Dessie Nell (Staggs) Skelton

December 24, 1945 ~ October 12, 2022

In the evening hours of October 12, 2022, Dessie Nell Skelton left this earthly world at Maury Regional Medical Center at the age of 76. Dessie was born in Lawrence County on December 24, 1945, to the late Elvie and Mary McClain Staggs.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert Skelton Jr; daughter Anita Jones and her husband Larry; siblings Monnie Staggs, Betty Mayberry, James Staggs, Cletus Staggs, Curtis Staggs, and an infant sibling; and her first husband James Walker.

She made her career working for the State Highway Department but was also known to take on other jobs and tasks. She enjoyed quilting with her family and sewing. On beautiful days she was outside working in both her vegetable and flower gardens. Dessie was an amazing and loving mother, grandmother, and Gigi, who cherished every moment spent with her family.

Ms. Dessie leaves behind to carry on her memory her children, Rodney (Lexa) Walker, Michael Walker, and Edna (Ralph) Skelton; stepson, Ronnie Skelton; grandchildren, Robert (Heather) Hinson, Harvey (Merissa) Hinson, Haley Walker, Marlee Walker, James Skelton, Brandi Sharp and Angie (James) Morris; great-grandchildren, Sofia Hinson, Hagen Hinson, Brodie Hinson, Emersyn Hinson, Briar Sharp and Brennan Sharp and Jayme Smith. She also leaves behind her siblings, Inos Patton and Brent (Evonne) Staggs.

Funeral services were held Saturday October 15, 2022, at Adair Funeral & Cremation Services with burial following at Downey Cemetery. Brother Rusty Colvett officiated.
