The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers hosted the Wayne County Lady Wildcats and Wildcats on Thursday, December 8.

The Lady Wildcats, riding a 7-game win streak to start the season, jumped on the Lady Panthers early. Keira Halbrooks would score six points in the first for Lewis County, but Wayne County would sprint out to a 24-8 lead in the first eight minutes of action.

The visitors would have a 29-point explosion in the second period and hold Lewis County to 10 points as the Lady Wildcats pulled out to a 53-18 halftime lead.

Wayne County would not slow down after the half as they continued to push the pace of the game in the third, adding 20 to their total and holding the Lady Panthers to 8 while building a 73-26 lead as play moved to the fourth quarter.

With a running clock for the final eight minutes of play Lewis County outscored Wayne County 8-2 but took the loss 75-34.

Kerrigan Reeves and Desirae Warman each had 9 points in the loss, Keira Halbrooks added 7 points, Blayr Clayton had 4, Kailee Thomas 3, and Gabii Ortiz and Ruth Jennings each had 1 point.

In the boys’ game the Panthers were looking to avenge an early-season loss at Wayne County as they faced the Wildcats. The Panthers took an early lead as Dyer Barnes scored 7 points in the first to pace Lewis County to a 15-10 lead.

The Panthers would continue to hold a lead throughout the second quarter and held a 30-24 lead at halftime.

Wayne County would start chipping into the Panther lead in the third, outscoring Lewis County 18-14 in the period to cut the Panther lead to 44-22 as play moved into the fourth quarter.

The final eight minutes of regulation saw multiple lead changes and the Wildcats and Panthers were tied at the end of the fourth at 61-61.

Lewis County would regroup for overtime and completely dominated the extra time, outscoring the visitors in overtime 17-2 to take the win at home 78-63.

Dyer Barnes led the Panthers with 26 points, Bryson Clayburn and Malachi Bruce each had 15, Wyatt Bosheers 8, and Kyle Holcomb and Cade Lomax each had 7.

The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers travelled to Clifton to take on the Frank Hughes Lady Lions and Lions on Friday, December 9.

The Lady Panthers first win of the season came against Frank Hughes during a Hall of Champions game at home to open the season, and they looked to repeat the performance on the road in Clifton. Keira Halbrooks’ 4 first quarter points paced the Lady Panthers to an early 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Lions fought back in the second, outscoring the Lady Panthers 16-12 to cut the score to 25-23 as the Lady Panthers took a narrow lead in at the half.

Desirae Warman led the third quarter attack with 6 points in the period as the Lady Panthers opened up a 16-point lead at 43-27 and took control of the game.

In the final eight minutes Lewis County got 7 from Kerrigan Reeves as they cruised to a 60-35 win on the road.

Desirae Warman tallied 15 points for the Lady Panthers in the win, Keira Halbrooks had 12, Kerrigan Reeves added 11, Jayden Moore 6, Blayr Clayton and Klayr Shepherd 4 points each, Aryn Shepherd and Hailee Burns 3 each, and Emery Norris 2 points.

Lewis County lost at home to the Lions in their prior meeting, but the Friday night meeting in Clifton would be different.

Lewis County jumped out in front of the Lions in the first quarter, outscoring the host 12-6. The second quarter was low scoring like the first, but the Panthers added to their lead behibd a 10-8 period to take a 22-14 lead at halftime.

Dyer Barnes (7) and Bryson Clayburn (6) fueled a 20-point quarter for the Panthers in the third as the Lewis County lead grew to 42-22.

The Panthers would hang on to their lead in the final eight minutes, taking the road win 52-35 over the Lions. Dyer Barnes was top scorer in the win with 20 points, Bryson Clayburn added 13, Wyatt Bosheers 11, Malachi Bruce 5, and Kyle Holcomb 2.

The Lewis County High School Lady Panthers and Panthers travelled to Lyles to take on the East Hickman Lady Eagles and Eagles on Monday, December 5th.

The Lady Eagles wasted little time jumping out in front of the Lady Panthers on Monday night. East Hickman’s pressure defense proved to be a huge obstacle for the Lady Panthers as the Lady Eagles were able to sprint out to a 19-6 lead in the first eight minutes of regulation.

The Lady Panthers were able to have limited success as play moved into the second quarter, but the Lady Eagles were able to add to their early lead and held a 33-15 advantage as the game reached halftime.

Offensive woes returned to the Lady Panthers in the third quarter as they only managed 4 points in the period as the Lady Eagles pulled out to a 50-19 lead in the period.

Lewis County would equal their second quarter point total in the fourth, but East Hickman continued to control the game and cruised to a 62-28 win over the Lady Panthers.

Desirae Warman and Keira Halbrooks were the leading scorers for Lewis County in the loss, tallying 8 points each. Klayr Shepherd added 5 points, Blayr Clayton, Kerrigan Reeves, and Emery Norris each added 2 points, and Gabii Ortiz had 1 point.

The Panthers found themselves playing catchup early in the boys’ game. East Hickman had a big opening quarter, tallying 23 points in the period and held a 23-16 lead.

The Panther defense answered in the second quarter, holding the Eagles to only 7 points while posting 12 and cutting the East Hickman lead to 30-28 at halftime.

The Panthers would continue their charge in the third quarter, getting two big threes from Bryson Clayburn and taking a 47-40 lead as the game moved to the fourth quarter.

The Eagles would use their 12-2 advantage in free-throw attempts over the last eight minutes to squeak out a 60-59 win over the Panthers.

Lewis County was led in scoring by Bryson Clayburn with 20, Dyer Barnes added 19, Cade Lomax had 8, Wyatt Bosheers 5, Malachi Bruce 4, and Kyle Holcomb 3.
