Library Elf visits local schools

The Lewis County Public Library and Archives contacted their North Pole partners to invite a story time friend to visit Hohenwald for the month of December! Jaimee Jingerbread (Library Assistant Jaimee Troutt) is the North Pole's very own Story Time Elf. She visited Lewis County Elementary School's Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade classes; Lewis County HeadStart, Lomax Day School, Hickman County Elementary School, and hosted tours with her friend Crystal Kringle (Library Director Crystal Nash) during Christmas in Hohenwald.

These school visits ignite a love of reading with interactive story times including the reading of several Christmas stories, energetic songs, and question and answer sessions with "A Real Live Elf!" Some of Ms. Jingerbread's favorite questions this year included "What is the North Pole?" "How did Santa get his Magic?" and "Why wasn't Rudolph in "'Twas the Night Before Christmas?". The last question became an excellent tool for introducing context clues between the two stories. Students looked at the page that showed how clear a night "Twas the Night Before Christmas" was, and talked through how Rudolph only flies on dark and stormy nights. After the class decided that Rudolph wasn't needed that night, another student chimed in, "And maybe he wasn't born yet!"

Thank you to all the teachers who welcomed us into their classrooms for seasonal story times. We are grateful to have reached 501 students and encouraged a desire to read, learn and be inspired. The library continues to provide story times for students monthly in the classroom, and weekly Preschool Story Times, Tuesdays at 10 AM.
