Series: Person of the Week | Story 28

Q.) Can you tell me a little about yourself?

A.) I am a mother of eight children. We had five girls and three boys. I have worked hard all my life. I love to help and do for others when I am able. Gardening is one of my favorite things to do.

Q.) Where did you grow up?

A.) Right here in Hohenwald on Spurgeon Drive.

Q.) What is one of your fondest childhood memories?

A.) Me and my best girlfriend, Helen Dickey, would go to the old Grover's wire house and run all through there playing and having a big time.

Q.) What did you want to be as a kid? What did you actually become?

A.) Well I wanted to be a hair dresser, but I never did get to do that, I went to work at the shoe factory.

Q.) Who was/ is your biggest role model?

A.) My mother, she was my best friend, she told me to always have a dream.

Q.) What are some of your favorite hobbies/how do you like to spend your free time?

A.) I love to garden, needle work, and quilting.

Q.) If you could go anywhere, in or out of the states, where would it be? Why?

A.) I would love to see Ireland. I think there would be a lot to see and learn.

Q.) What is your favorite 90's jam?

A.) Well, I listen to gospel but now I love Elvis.

Q.) What is one of your favorite things about living in Hohenwald?

A.) It's home, the small town.We lived up north for a few years and coming home was the highlight. I love Hohenwald.

Q.) What is your favorite time of year? Why?

A.) Summer, because I can work in the garden.

Q.) You're a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be? Why?

A.) I would be a bright red. I used to keep my hair red, every color of red.

Q.) What do you enjoy most about your job?

A.) The people, and I just loved working. I had several jobs. But my longest job was Levi's in Centerville.

Q.) Do you have a nickname?

A.) Yes I do, Nookie. My daddy gave me that name. It come from a pig we had we called Nookie, and I got that nickname.

Q.) Is there any life advice you could give to our readers?

A.) Always be good to family, always be good to yourself.

Q.) Is there anything you would like to add that my questions may not have touched on?

A.) I think you need to love everybody, do what you can for others. Before I got sick I would cook and do for everybody. If you do good for others, it makes you feel good.
