Community Baby Shower for Early Literacy Initiative

On Saturday, March 18, 2023 a Community Baby Shower was held at the ELKS Lodge to promote early literacy in children. The event was made possible by funding from our Spotlight Grant.

The shower was well attended by over 56 adults, 82 children and 18 Elk members, totaling over 156 people. Books were read to the children, illustrating the stories. Parents were able to take home diapers, wipes and many other needed items and emphasis placed on the importance of reading to their children regularly and each child received their very own books to take home.

The Lewis County Public Library was on sight and signed up children for their own library card. The Imagination Library representative attended and signed up over 20 children to receive books each month.

The Lewis County Health Department attended, giving away cribs, strollers and other great items. They provided information to the parents on healthy habits and CHANT.

The Lodge considered this to be very valuable for our community and plan to do it again next year.
