The Lewis County High School Lady Panther and Panther tennis squads put on a dominant performance in their first home matches of the season against Collinwood on Tuesday, March 14.

In girls’ singles play Ruth Jennings played as the number one seed for the Lady Panthers and took control of her match midway through the match. Jennings took the match against the Collinwood one seed 8-4. In the matchup of number two seeds it was a tight match for Lewis County’s number 2 Brooke Mason, but Mason was able to fend off the Collinwood challenger with an 8-6 win. Mary Halfacre played as the three seed for Lewis County and took the win 8-1, dominating the Collinwood 3 seed.

In the lone doubles matchup on the girls’ side Ruth Jennings paired with Trinly Greene and lost in extra points to the Collinwood duo 9-8.

The Lady Panthers finished 3-0 in singles play and 0-1 in doubles.

In boys’ singles action Panther number 1 seed cruised through his matchup with the Collinwood 1 seed 8-0. In the battle of number 2 seeds Lewis County’s Ethan Powers took control of his match with Collinwood’s number 2 seed at the midway point and took the win 8-4. Julian Jones, Panther number 3, had no problems with his opponent from Collinwood and secured an 8-2 win. In the four seed match it was Lewis County’s Jeremiah Sparks that overpowered his Collinwood counterpart in an 8-0 final.

In boys’ doubles play the Lewis County duo of Julian Jones and Gavin Carroll took control of their match with the number one pair from Collinwood early. Jones and Carroll rolled to an 8-2 win. Jones paired up again with Ethan Powers and shut out the second Collinwood doubles pairing by a score of 8-0.

The Panthers finished 4-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action.

The LCHS tennis teams were on the road on Thursday, March 16 as they traveled to East Hickman for matches with the Eagles and Lady Eagles.

In girls’ singles play Lewis County number 1 seed struggled against the number 1 seed of East Hickman. Jennings fell behind early and was unable to climb back, dropping the match 8-3. Brook Mason, playing as the Lady Panther’s number 2, was able to break serve early in the matchup of twos. Mason took the win 8-2. In the match between number 3 seeds, Lewis County’s Trinly Greene fell behind to the East Hickman number 3 seed and lost the match 8-3. It was a similar result in the number 4 seed match as Lewis County’s Mary Halfacre dropped the match 8-3.

The lone doubles match on the girls’ side featured Lewis County’s Ruth Jennings and Brooke Mason. The match was tight for the first few points, but East Hickman broke service first and was able to pull out an 8-5 win.

The Lady Panthers finished 1-3 in singles play and 0-1 in doubles.

East Hickman only had 1 and 2 seeds available for boys’ singles. In the matchup of number1 seeds it was Bryson Clayburn who dominated his East Hickman foe and took a convincing 8-0 win. Ethan Powers played as Lewis County’s number 2 seed in his match. Powers shut out the East Hickman number 2 in an 8-0 win.

Clayburn and Powers partnered up for the only doubles match on the boys’ side and were dominant in an 8-0 win.

The Panthers finished 2-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles.
