One of Hampshire's Good Ole Boys was called home, Robert Andrew Himes Sr., age 70 died at his home in Hampshire, on Thursday, April 6, 2023. His body was weak but his spirit was strong; he is flying free as the spiritual life he led. We will see him again one day with joy in our hearts.
A visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home, 609 Bear Creek Pike, Columbia, at 12 noon on Sunday, April 16, 2023, followed by a precession to cemetery and Graveside services at Pisgah Primitive Church Cemetery (2 p.m.) located on Highway 166 in Hampshire. Pastor Dedra Campbell will be officiating the service. Please bring a fond story to tell where memories can be shared. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born January 2, 1953, in Hampshire, to the late Webb Hill Himes and the late Mattie Virginia Runions Himes, Robert attended Hampshire Unit School and as an upstanding community member that helped anyone in need.
At his passing, Robert worked as a farm manager of a local farm in Hampshire. Robert was a master rock mason. He built rock walls, chimneys, and flower beds all across Middle Tennessee. During the last years of his life, he enjoyed fishing with the grandkids and working around the house, just a day prior to his passing he was planting potatoes. Robert will be especially remembered for his hard work ethics, thoughtfulness to others, and being kind to everyone he encountered.
He is survived by his children, Andrea LeeAnn Himes of Hampshire, Robert Andrew Himes Jr. of Texas, and Jason Kelley of California; children's mother, Shelia Tidwell; sister, Bessie Scott of Hampshire; and grandchildren, Trent, Datin Claypool, Ciara Ragsdale, Austin, Kaitlyn, Landyn Tullock, Emily and Christopher Kelley.
Along with his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Himes Shrader and Catherine Himes Emler; and brothers, James Webb Himes, William "Bookie" Himes, Edward Himes, Thomas Himes, and Alonzo Himes.
Pallbearers will include Fresh Start Men's group, Hampshire Men's Club and the Hampshire Community.
