Norman Gregory Durham, Esquire, of Sanford, North Carolina passed away Friday April 28, 2023 at the age of 68. Mr. Durham was born in Hickman County, and raised in Hohenwald. He was a son of Hilda Christine Gilbert Durham and the late Edward Eugene Durham. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend.
Mr. Durham loved sports and was named “Mr. Basketball” in 1972 at Lewis County High School. He went to Memphis State University, majoring in Political Science and History, and Memphis State University School of Law, graduating in 1984. He practiced law in Memphis, Sevierville, and Sanford, North Carolina, and retired as an Assistant District Attorney in Lee County, North Carolina.
He enjoyed playing golf with his friends, carpentry and wood working, gardening and landscaping, bird watching, listening to and playing music, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for reading about religion, history, and philosophy, and wrote a novel that was just published in February of this year, “On the Seedy Side”, a novel of Law and Life in Rural Tennessee.
Mr. Durham is survived by his wife, Susan Watson Durham, MD; son, Phillip Gregory Durham, PhD (Melinda); daughter, Allison Durham; his mother, Hilda Gilbert Durham; sister, Barbara Durham Jones (Larry); brother, Jerry Durham (Sandra) and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family was held on Tuesday, May 2 until service time at McDonald Funeral Home in Hohenwald. Burial followed in the Swiss Cemetery.
