Serving Hohenwald, Lewis County Tennessee Since 1898
The Hohenwald Planning Commission met Monday, May 2nd, to discuss several items of business.
A recommendation was made to rezone the lot across from Family Dollar on the corner of Walnut and West Main Street from residential to commercial as the commercial potential in that area continues to expand.
Also recommended for rezoning was a two acre parcel of land adjacent to TCAT including the land TCAT sits on. The plan is to rezone it as commercial property with the intent to construct a Dollar General Store so as to benefit the residents on the west side of Lewis County, as well as “people who come and go from the river.” If constructed, the plan is to design the entrance to align with the entrance of the High School in the case a red light is ever needed and placed.
The commission approved site plans and construction plans for the credit union beside Taco Bell, Family Advantage Federal Credit Union. The plan is to build a new building on the currently empty lot to house the credit union, tear the old building down, and create parking for the new business in its place.
Kyle Hamm also presented plans for a subdivision for the corner of Totty and Hwy. 412 West that will create five new building sites. It was recommended to send plans to the board of zoning appeals to discuss variants of two of the lots that were five feet short because of their shape.
Brad Rasbury closed the meeting with his presentation of the Codes Inspector report.
Business discussed at this meeting will require two readings. The first was at the City Council meeting held May 9th, and the second reading will be held in June.
